ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

Case of Colmar, on April 8, 2005:

Case number:

ALSACAT-2005-04-08-COLMAR-1

Summary:

A 13-year-olg girl, Fanny, of Colmar, wrote to the Swiss ufology group GREPI that the day before, April 8, 2005, while she was attending French class, between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., she had looked out the window at the heavy rain, when she "managed to distinguish an oval thing that crossed the sky at high speed."

This thing had red and blue flashing lights. When she saw that, she got up and rushed to the window, and her teacher imposed a one hour study punishment on her.

The thing had just crossed the sky very quickly, "it was not a plane and not a helicopter, because the thing was silent, then it disappeared into the clouds."

The girl assures that although she is only 13, she does not lie, she expresses that she is glad to "finally talk about it with someone."

Hello!

I'm only 13 years old but I do not have a habit of lying. So eeeerrrr..., I'll start with the basics: Yesterday (testimony received April 9, 2005 - GREPI), I was in French class, between 4 and 5 o'clock, I looked out the window the heavy rain that there was (French: the top floor!), when I was able to distinguish an oval thing that crossed the sky at high speed, the thing had red and blue flashing lights, when I saw it I got up and rushed to the window and my teacher gave me an hour of restraint! The thing had just crossed the sky very quickly, it was not a plane or a helicopter, for the thing was silent, then it disappeared into the clouds.
Wheeewww! I can finally talk about it with someone! That's all, but I did not lie! good day, bye!

Fanny (Colmar - France)

Discussion:

Map.

According to meteorological records from Colmar-Meyenheim for that day, it was not raining between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.. 0.6 mm of rain fell at noon. A local rainfall cannot be excluded.

It is likely that the girl was in school in Colmar, in a city. But nobody reported anything to my knowledge. This suggests that the thing puzzled no other person. Was it maybe a helicopter, with noise not audible behind the windows and/or because it was distant?

Evaluation:

Unidentified, possible helicopter, not enough information.
