ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. I received by e-mail on April 4, 2002, the report by A. B. of his sighting on Tuesday April 3, 2002 at 11:45 p.m. lasting one minute, in Riedisheim in the Haut-Rhin:

A really weird thing, I was walking my dogs when I see a light in the sky that I first take for a light on a plane, although very powerful, except that it had a twin, remote of the length of ta finger, I understood then that the two lights were the ends of a cylinder or flying cigar. I then thought of an airship, but a blimp with two luminous ends that's new to me... and there is the speed...

When I see it it moves rather slowly but accelerates slowly but surely, it would disappear from my field of vision behind a group of tree[s], I run to "catch up" about 100 meters away, but nothing, empty sky, and 2 min later a very slight noise of the airplane kind, but do not live very far from an airport, so it's common ...

this is the second time I see something roughly the same area, the first time was about 2 or 3 years back on a summer cloudy sky, this time a light beam from the base of the clouds in the distance, vertical pointing to the sky, about 30 seconds, then acceleration up and nothing...

I do not care about UFO, not really my passion, even if after my first "vision" I had doubts, there tonight I really ask myself a lot of questions.... hoping that this testimony helps you in your search...

Observation in Riedisheim ( 68 ) on 04/03/2002

Discussion:

I remember very well having immediately thought, when reading the story, of a "classic" explanation in this sector that I know well, having lived there from 5 to 19 years old.

On the one hand, as the witness suggests, there is from the place where he is, probably the heights south of Riedisheim, an airport, Euroairport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg, 17 km in straight line, with takeoffs and landings of airliners.

On the other hand, in the same direction, there was a large discotheque in the commune of Bartenheim, "Planet Discopolis" then "Macumba" then "Palace Loisirs", which I know used projectors and lasers to entertainment, and above all to advertize to passing motorists on the motorway. For the record, there was in the entrance hall of the nightclub a maannequin of an alien of the "Little Grey" type...

This and the airplane noise may suggest an explanation, perhaps a combination of the disco lights and an airliner.
