ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

Case of Mulhouse, on May 14, 1992:

Haut-Rhin

L'Alsace - 23/05/1992. The newspaper L'Alsace reported that on last May 14, around 11:00 p.m., a witness (who remained anonymous but whose newspaper vouches for) observed from the Furstenberger district, in Mulhouse, a luminous trail, then a luminous ball like a white car headlight.

He was able to follow its trajectory for 6 to 7 seconds, towards the back of the Saint-Joseph church, then the ball disappeared in silence in a cloudless sky. The witness declared himself certain that it was not an aircraft approaching Basel-Mulhouse airport.

Discussion:

Map.

I agree with the witness that this was likely not an aircraft; but why would it not be a meteor?

There is no official "Furstenberger district" in Mulhouse, there is the Furstenberger street, 600 meters long. The church of Saint-Joseph is generally to the south of this street. The direction of the phenomenon is likely between 160" and 200░.

Evaluation:

Possible meteor.
