ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

Case of Alsace, on July 21, 1974:

Case number:

ALSACAT-1974-07-21-ALSACE-1

Summary:

"GREI" was a small group of often young ufologists, in the Mulhouse area in the Haut-Rhin, in the 1970s. One of their former members entrusted me with some papers of this association that he had preserved. One of them was a handwritten note from a child or at least a minor witness, saying that he has an IQ of 110, and telling this:

In July 1974, at 10:10 p.m., there were three of them, coming out of "music rehearsal", walking. They looked up to to the sky, and saw "that red-orange elliptical disc three-four meters (noise No. 7) like bee swarm."

The light ranged from canary yellow to orange, and the witness reporter thought it may be "a rocket by the Russians (with hindsight)".

The thing went away "straight vertically" (he specified that this is according to his perception). He explained that he was shocked, that he cannot explain it, that he liked it, that it was beautiful, and that he was "even a little afraid."

On the back of the paper, he noted "Saturday, July 21" and the time "03:04 p.m.". But no location was indicated.
