At the end of the 1950s, a French archivist, Guy Quincy, interested in the question of the "mysterious celestial objects", compiled an observation catalog, in which he had noted, without giving either a source or details, an observation "around October 6" 1954 at an unknown jour in the Island of Ré in the Charente-Maritime department.
In the 2010s, a German web-based database listing UFO sighting reports indicated that there was a sighting of the "Nocturnal Light(s)" type on the Island of Ré on October 7, 1954.
