The regional newspaper Le Berry Républicain for November 9, 1954, reported that on November 7, 1954, around 1 a.m., several trustworthy people saw, a few kilometers from Decize, a series of extremely bright cones that passed over them, skimming the treetops.
The light emanating from these mysterious objects lit up the ground as if it were broad daylight; the observation lasted only a few seconds.

DECIZE
Sightings of mysterious objects have once again been reported in the Decize region. Last Saturday, around 8 p.m., a young man working in Decize was riding his bicycle near the town when his attention was caught by a bright object in the sky, shaped like a half-moon and emitting a beam of multicolored rays.
On Sunday, several credible witnesses saw, a few kilometers from Decize around 1:30 in the morning, a series of extremely bright cones that passed over them, skimming the treetops.
The light emitted by these mysterious objects lit up the ground as if it were broad daylight. This appearance lasted only a few seconds.

The information from the press is rather scant. One might assume that these were helicopters, especially since the presence or absence of noise is not specified. However, I can say that night flights of helicopters in France at that time were not at all common, particularly in formation as seems to be the case here. Since the objects passed over the witnesses at the height of the treetops, it is also unlikely that any noise would have gone unmentioned.
I therefore leave the case as "unidentified."
