November 4, 1954, Meslan, Morbihan:

Reference for this case: 4-Nov-54-Meslan.
Please cite this reference in any correspondence with me regarding this case.

Summary:

The regional newspaper La Liberté du Morbihan for November 6, 1954, reported that "yesterday morning" - in fact, probably November 4, 1954, a day before the article was written and not the day before publication - around 6:55 a.m., while it was still dark, several "trustworthy" people from Meslan had seen "a highly luminous object that crossed the village from west to east at very high speed."

"The phenomenon" was seen for only 3 to 4 seconds, then "disappeared into the clouds."

Some witnesses spoke of a round shape, others, who were a few kilometers from the village, spoke of a somewhat oval shape. It was said to have descended "fairly low before ascending again at dizzying speed."

Among the witnesses were Mr. Christien, Mr. Quinio, Mr. Le Marre father and son, L. Péron, Mrs. Cario, young Le Gleut, etc., as well as the priests who had just entered the unlit church and saw the sanctuary light up as the "object" passed by.

A FLYING SAUCER IN MESLAN?

Meslan, in turn, has just had a visit from a flying saucer.

Yesterday morning, around 6:55 a.m., while it was still dark, several trustworthy people saw a highly luminous object that crossed the village from west to east at very high speed. The phenomenon was visible for only 3 to 4 seconds before disappearing into the clouds.

According to some, the object was round in shape; according to others, who were a few kilometers from the village, it was somewhat oval and seemed to descend fairly low before shooting back up at dizzying speed.

Among the witnesses to the phenomenon, we can name: Mr. Christien, Quinio, Le Marre father and son, L. Péron, Mrs. Cario, young Le Gleut, etc., as well as the priests who had just entered the unlit church and saw the sanctuary light up as the object passed by.

Explanations:

Map.

The situation is rather unclear, with two quite different possibilities:

Either "yesterday" was November 4, 1954, in which case this report fits among those of the meteor widely seen in this region at a time generally reported as 7:15 a.m.

Or, "yesterday" was really November 5, 1954, the time was indeed 6:55 a.m., and the object truly descended then ascended again - meaning it was not that meteor.

Caution is necessary here, and so I will note the case as a possible sighting of the November 4, 1954, meteor.
