October 4, 1954, Le Poiré-sur-Vie, Vendée:

Reference for this case: 4-Oct-54-Le-Poiré.
Please cite this reference in any correspondence with me regarding this case.

The regional newspaper La Vendée Libre for October 10, 1954, reported that on October 4, 1954, around 9:30 p.m., inhabitants of the villages of Rethelière and Pierre-Levée as well as several people from the neighborhoods de la Brachetière and Printemps, at the exit of the village of Poiré-sur-Vie on the road to La Roche-sur-Yon, Mrs. Piffeteau, Minaud and Buton, had seen in the sky, a dozen luminous objects of elongated shape.

The newspaper indicated that these objects were several meters long, red and green in color, and passed at a very high altitude and at a very high speed, so that they could only be observed for a few moments. Coming from the direction of the north they were heading towards the sea, without emitting the slightest noise.

Some ten
flying saucers

Last Monday, at about 09:30 P.M., the inhabitants of the villages of la Rethelière and la Pierre-Levée as well as several people of the districts of la Brachetière and le Printemps, at the exit of the borough of le Poiré sur Vie on the road of La Roche sur Yon, Mrs. Piffeteau, Minaud and Buton, saw, in the sky, ten luminous objects, of elongated shape.

These objects, several meters long and of red and green color, passed at a very high altitude and a very high speed, with the result that they could be observed only during a few moments only. Coming from the direction of north, they moved towards the sea, without emitting any noise.

Monday, October 4, 1954

21:30 In Le Poiré-sur-Vie (Vendée), several women see tens of luminous lengthened phenomena move towards the sea, during a few moments.

Jérôme Beau indicates as source: "'Une dizaine de soucoupes volantes', La Vendée Libre, October 10, 1954 in Choloux, Jérôme: '2. La vague de 1954' in 'Les OVNIs en Vendée', Les Mystères de Vendée, 2007.

In his case listing "UFOs in the Vendée", the author notes this case:

"Le Poiré-sur-Vie, 4 October 1954".

Possible meteors.

Multiple meteors are rare but not non-existent; this occurs by breaking of an initial meteor into several pieces.

Another possibility is that it was the newspaper that interpreted a single meteor seen in multiple separate sightings by separate witnesses, as one sighting of multiple objects.
