October 3, 1954, Leignes-sur-Fontaine, Vienne:

Reference for this case: 3-Oct-54-Leignes-sur-Fontaine.
Please cite this reference in any correspondence with me regarding this case.

Pioneering ufologist Aimé Michel indicated in his 1958 book, without specifying his source, that on October 3, 1954, at a late hour of the night, in Leignes-sur-Fontaine in the Vienne, a red luminous object was observed. It went to the zenith at an altitude that seemed weak and disappeared to the west, he said.

Aimé Michel indicates that on October 3, 1954, in Leignes-sur-Fontaine in the Vienne, at a time well in the night, a luminous red object has been observed. It passed at the zenith at an altitude which seems low and disappeared towards the West.

[Ref. lcn1:] LUC CHASTAN:

Luc Chastan indicates that in the Vienne in "Leignes sur fontaines" on October 3, 1954 at a late hour of the night, a red luminous object is observed. It passes at the zenith at an altitude which seems low and disappears towards the West.

Luc Chastan indicates that the source is "M.O.C. by Michel Aimé ** Arthaud 1958".

Dominique Caudron indicates that the catalogue of 800 cases published in 1970 by Maurice Santos, is a good example of what one should not do; he indicates to extract from it the list of the cases of October 3, 1954; which he knows well as he had investigated into these cases of his area of Nord. For each case, below the text of the Santos catalogue, he states what should have been written, and the explanation after analysis, when there is one.

Santos wrote that for this case #546 of October 3, 1954, of "Various Forms" there had been in Leignes-on-Fountain a luminous Unknown Object Flying at low altitude.

Dominique Caudron says that at a late hour of the night, in Leignes-la-Fontaine, 86, a red luminous object passes at the zenith and disappears towards the west. He adds that there is no other sources than Aimé Michel.

He notes that the numbering of the cases by Santos seemed a good idea, but that it prevents the evolution of the catalogue, whose numbering becomes incoherent at the first update: "For example, this catalogue contains only 10 cases for the area of the Nord, whereas we know 48 of them. How to place the 38 others?"

The Moon and Mars are excluded as they are low on the horizon, not on the zenith.

However, the information is extremely meager, the strangeness is low, there is no known first hand source, no witnesse name or any witness information, and apparently this case was never checked or investigated.

Michel said this thing went to the West, and therefore associated it with the sighting in Lusignan, 50 km in the West of Leignes-sur-Fontaine; which, Michel told, occurred a few minutes later.
