Summary:

In a general catalog of observations of the Gironde written by the Bordeaux section of the CFRU, published in the ufology magazine Ouranos in the fourth quarter of 1973, it is said that according to the newspaper Sud-Ouest for October 9, 1954, the following observation took place:

On September 22, 1954, at 01:45 p.m. in Saint-Laurent-Médoc, Amédée Beaumont and his servant saw a very brilliant metallic apparatus, of cylindrical shape, silent, moving by jerks, stabilizing and then disappearing at high speed.

After Michel Figuet apparently misdated the case to September 23, 1954, all other source used this probably wrong date.

Explanations:

Map.

The movement by jerks, the stabilization, the departure, may suggest that it was neither a plane nor a meteor, but this is not fully guaranteed; there may have been some distortions of the story. One may think of a helicopter, perfectly capable of this kind of displacement.

Since there has been no investigation, apparently, since no duration is given, that there is a lot of missing information (for example, the angular size, the precise shape) I do not think I can end up giving a sound assessment of this observation.
