ALSACAT:

As its name suggests, ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

France - A UFO filmed above Strasbourg on January 1, 2016?

Is it the first UFO filmed over France in this new year 2016?

Possible when seeing the video frames presented below and would have been filmed in Alsace, Strasbourg above the district of the Meinau.

Lasting about 35 minutes that observation was filmed. The images let see a strange and very strong white light.

But it could have been many other things than a UFO.

However more details should allow to better judge this event you can see below.

France: bright white UFO in the night sky of Strasbourg - January 1, 2016

ufology

This bright white round white UFO [sic] glows in the dark night around midnight 35 minutes near Starsbourg [sic]!

This is not a firework or a Chinese lantern.

A netizen commenting this video cites the observation at 1 o'clock 30 01/01/2016 above the Essonne of a single shimmering orange light emitting no noise about 300m above sea level and slow speed. No wind could suggest a balloon:

"I'm used to seeing the planes and there it was not a a parking light, no noise and moreover airplanes lights are white."

One William Liam has also posted on You Tube a video entitled "UFO in the night from 12/31/2015 to 01/01/2016 at 0:05 in the Vendée" showing two bright spots in the night. Is it the same phenomenon observed by Jean-Pierre, who has tried unsuccessfully to contact William? Finally, in the same night in Strasbourg, a strange yellow and very bright light was also seen.

Discussion:

Map.

A white thing in the night sky that can be filmed is obviously not necessarily a Chinese lantern, but it can be the planet Venus, which takes very psychedelic aspects in front of the video camera zoom.

But Venus was not visible around midnight, set down 03:24 p.m. and rising only at about 6 a.m. Note, however, the presence of the very bright star Sirius.

The video in question, which was published on Youtube originally, disappeared meanwhile. Perhaps the witness reviewed the matter the following nights and learned it was...

Evaluation:

Possible astronomical.
