In a list of cases, the ufology magazine Ouranos #15 of the 3rd quarter of 1955 indicated that there had been an observation on December 1, 1954, in La Charité, in the Nièvre department, "with sudden disappearance".
I later found the report of the observation in the newspaper Le Berry Républicain from December 3, 1954:
On December 1st, around 4:45 PM, a mysterious red object very high in the sky caught the attention of many residents of La Charité.
A person who observed it through binoculars reported that it was a circular, possibly spherical body, from which a smaller green object appeared to detach.
At one point, black smoke emerged from both the lower and upper parts of the object. This black smoke then turned white, and "suddenly, everything vanished."
The phenomenon was observed for more than half an hour by many people from various locations around La Charité.

On Wednesday, December 1st, around 4:45 p.m., a mysterious red object, very high in the sky, attracted the attention of many residents of La Charité.
According to one person who observed it through binoculars, it was a circular, possibly spherical body, from which a smaller green-colored object appeared to detach.
At one point, black smoke emerged from both the lower and upper parts of the mysterious craft. The smoke then changed from black to white. Suddenly, everything vanished.
The phenomenon was observed for over half an hour by numerous people at various locations around La Charité.

The only comonplace explanation I can speculate on would be a sounding balloon dropping its payload, with some exploding mechanism to activate the drop. But there is no parachute observed, there is a "sudden disappearance", so this epxalanation does not seem very concincing to me.
I leave the case as "undentified" for now.
