Varese, 29 (U.P.). -- "Martians" landed during the night in the village of Tradate, near Varese.
It was around midnight. Giovanni Guidola was returning home by bicycle (he had just come from the cinema), passing by the sports field. He noticed a strange object emitting a greenish glow.
Brave but not reckless, he immediately turned around and didn’t stop until he reached the first open café. There, people happened to be talking about saucers.
He said he had just seen one sitting on the sports field. They took his word for it. Someone, caught up in the excitement of the conversation, said: "Let’s go see." This proposal received mixed reactions.
Still, a certain number of determined young men decided they wanted to get to the bottom of it.
THEY SET OUT THIRTY AND ARRIVED TEN
When they left the café, there were at least thirty of them. But there were defections along the way. Only ten of them saw it through to the end.
When they arrived at the sports field, they saw - barely believing their eyes:
1° That the saucer was still there;
2° That two Martians were walking around the saucer, seemingly busy with some kind of repair.
TRANSPARENT HELMET AND STOVEPIPE PANTS
They were conversing with each other using grunts similar to those of suckling pigs, wore stiff white cylindrical pants like stovepipes, a kind of brown armor covered their chests, and they wore transparent helmets, like plastic, revealing a haunting face from which hung a sort of elephant trunk.
GREEN AND SILVER
The saucer seemed to consist of two parts. The lower part rested on the ground by means of a sort of tripod. It was from this section that the greenish glow emanated, while the upper part, spherical in shape, shone with a brilliant silver radiance.
As the villagers approached, the "Martians" withdrew toward the machine; upon seeing this, the brave earthlings grabbed stones and started throwing them at the beings.

UNTOUCHABLE
To their astonishment, a mysterious force repelled the stones before they could reach the little beings, who remained motionless and unfazed.
One of the villagers, who had wisely brought along his dog - a large boxer known for its ferocity - let the animal loose.
The beast lunged, teeth bared, at the "Martians"; but as it came within a few meters of them, it stopped short, whimpered, then turned back and howled as if in agony.
The "Martians" then decided to re-enter their saucer, which took off vertically at an incredible speed.
The adventure of the ten citizens of Tradate has become the highlight of a particularly eventful week in Italy. It has been picked up by several Italian evening papers, including "La Notte," generally considered a serious publication, which devoted six columns to the story.
The sincerity of the villagers is not being questioned.
