UFOs in the daily Press:

Meteors, France, 1950:

The article below was published in the daily newspaper La Liberté de l'Est, France, on May 4, 1950.

In Alsace, they saw a meteor resembling a saucer

Mulhouse. -- Several witnesses, including two athletes from Mulhouse and a high school teacher from Mulhouse who were at the Markstein, observed a curious celestial phenomenon in a westerly direction at around 2:50 p.m. They saw an oblong body shining like silver and absolutely silent, which seemed to descend from the sky at a dizzying speed. The object left in its wake a jet of flames similar to those coming out of an exhaust pipe. According to the teacher, it was a meteor of exceptional luminosity, which, if it had appeared at night, would have lit up the entire sky. It does not appear to be a saucer or a metal craft, the bolide being, according to the statements, absolutely silent.

A saucer or a meteor in the Vosges sky?

On Sunday afternoon, Mr. Villaume, from Jussarupt, was near his town when his attention was drawn to a whistling sound comparable to that caused by a grenade thrown and he saw in the sky a black ball moving from east to west at high speed, leaving a trail of smoke. The phenomenon had other witnesses.
