Ottawa, August 31 (Reuter). -- Mr. Baldwin, Deputy Minister of Transport, announced today that his department is abandoning its efforts to find (or refute) the existence of flying saucers.
The observation post at Shirley Bay, 16 kilometers northwest of Ottawa, which had been established for this purpose, has just been closed.
"Nothing, so far, in the observations from this post," declared Mr. Baldwin, "justified further government spending."
Mr. Wilbert Smith, engineer in charge of the Measurement Section of the Department of Transport, acknowledged that the post had observed nothing since its construction last October.
