Camba Punta, Argentina, August 2, 1962

An international airport is lacated in Corrientes, Argentina, since long ago. It is called today "Piragine Niveiro", but in the past it was called "Camba Punta" and today still a lot of people continue to call it so.

In 1962, in the night from the 1st to the 2nd of August, at midnight, the operator of the air traffic control tower of the airport sees that a light starts to approach the airport. But no plane is announced. By radio, the air traffic controllers ask what they think is a plane to identify itself. But as the radio operator of the tower does not receive any answer, they concludes that it must surely be a fighter pilot in serious trouble.

The air traffic control personnel in the tower then decides to call the director of the airport, Luis Harvey, to explain this unexpected incident to him. The airport director was residing in the center of the city and in spite of the unusual hour, he stood up and came at the airport in a hurry. It was even said that he arrived in pyjamas.

On his arrival, he indeed sees that a luminous object moved at a high speed in the sky, and he orders that a landing strip is freed and signalled for its landing.

But these reactions of common sense soon appeared vain: indeed, the director as well as all the air traffic control officials and the other personal of the airport realize that what they had still wanted to interpret as a plane in trouble did not have the aerodynamic behavior of a plane at all, nor of anything they knew of. Moreover, it then approached the landing strip at full speed and stopped with a few meters above the ground; at this time, everyone could see that it was perfectly spherical, that it rotated and emitted strong blue luminous sparks of blue, green and orange colors.

The unknown machine remained there, while rotating, during three minutes without ever touching the ground. When the director of the airport and his colleagues, amazed at what they saw, started to approach the strange apparatus, it rose and simply fled in the sky at an enormous speed.

Luis Harvey had alerted the authorities. The Argentinean Air Forces had been alerted, but did not try any interception. It was too late.

It also appeared that at the same time, a UFO had been seen during a whole hour on waters of the river Anchuroso Parana, not far from the airport.

The case made the headlines in Argentina at the time. The case became internationally known through major Keyhoe's book "Aliens form Space", the data provided here comes from the Federation Correntina d' Ovnilogía and the press of the time.

Today, all that survived of this case is the tiny summary in the "Magonia" listing by Jacques Vallée:

540

Aug. 02, 1962 Camba Punat Airport (Argentina).

Luis Harvey, airport manager, and his staff thought that an unannounced aircraft was about to land, as they saw a luminous object circling at high speed. It came down to hover about 1 m above the runway for some four min. It was spherical, spinning, and emitted flashes of blue, green and orange. When approached, it took off at very high speed.
