The Belgium flap:

On November 29, 1989, in the Eupen region:

At 07:45 p.m. from Herbestahl street in Eupen, Mr. S.:

SOBEPS gives this information:

Mr. S. lived almost at the same place as Miss K. halfway between Eupen and the E40 motorway exit to Herbestahl Street.

At 7:45 p.m., he saw at his vertical an object with four powerful white lights forming a square. He even thought he could discern a very dark square-shaped object.

The diameter of these headlights was quite large, and in the center there was a flashing yellow light of an even bigger diameter.

Two white lights located on the same diagonal sent beams to the ground, while the other two white lights seemed to light horizontally.

The object remained stationary for three to four minutes, then "rotates 90 degrees" and goes away slowly at first, then faster and faster, towards Lontzen.

Mr. S. did not hear any noise coming from the craft.

SOBEPS mentioned again this observation report in their second book, reported in a study of the UFO's shapes. They indicated:

On November 29, 1989 at 07:45, p.m., a witness saw an object in the form of a square of an estimated 5 meters width, fitted at each corner with a powerful white headlight from 30 to 40 centimeters in diameter. In the center there is a yellow light larger in diameter than that of the white light.

The phenomenon remained steady for 3 or 4 minutes then rotated on its axis by 90 degrees and went (...) very slowly at first, then increasing its speed.

The witness did not hear any noise.

There is a summary for this observation, published on the web by the Belgian ufologist Godelieve Van Overmeire in her catalog circa 1999, now gone, but much copied by UFO websites and forums. This summary is as follows:

1989, November 29

BELGIUM, Eupen

07:45 p.m. single witness. (...) An object in the form of a square estimated 5 m by side, carrying at each corner a powerful white light (30 to 40 cm in diameter). In the center a yellow flashing light of a larger diameter. The phenomenon remains motionless for 3-4 minutes before rotating on its axis by 90 degrees and leaving (...) very slowly at first, then increasing its speed, towards Lontzen. The witness did not notice any noise. (VOB 2 - SOBEPS 1994, p. 205)

Source example:

Below: From a sketch by SOBEPS (source cited above and proportions and measures given, one would obtain something of this kind:

It must be noted that the indication that two headlights projected lights ahead and two others projected light below would allow to think that the witness did not see this square from below, bit from a side maybe.

Luminosity of the sky during this sighting:

06:40 p.m.
06:50 p.m.
07:00 p.m.
07:10 p.m.

Localization:

Above: The red line indicates Herbestahl street, between the north-west part of Eupen and the highway in blue.

Notes:

The measures are not necessarily correct. As the object was unknown, its size was not necessarily a correct estimate, an angular size would have been a better figure.
