ALSACAT:

ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

Summary:

Nathalie, from Alsace, reported on January 20, 2005, this story by the website to the Swiss ufology group GREPI.

She said that it all started 30 years ago, that it always happens from November to January.

She observed a star brighter than the others, that started from the right passing the mountain and continued along the mountain to the left. When an airplane showed up, it remained on the spot and, when the plane had passed, it continued its trajectory.

She saw it around six in the evening and followed it by foot to the farm where she was getting milk. Then the star passed the mountain, and she could not see it anymore. It used to come back around eight o'clock. She observed this for several days in a row, for several years.

One day, she decided to change her route. On her bike, she left the village and continued to the edge of the forest, higher than the village and just at the foot of another hill that was facing this phenomenon.

There, she observed it as usual, but instead of crossing the mountain as it always did, it stopped three-quarters of its way and changed its trajectory. She tells:

"It was coming in my direction and was getting bigger, 20 to 30 times bigger than the Northern Star, maybe even more, I was very scared, and as it approached me, it grew up and it went over me and when it passed over the hill, it lit up a good part of the forest, and then I went back as quickly as possible down to the village."

17 years later, she returned to her home village, one evening in November, accompanied by her 6-year-old boy.

Leaving the village to go back home, she saw three bright balls that began to zigzag. She had the impression that they "played soccer", but with incredible speed.

She got out of her car to look better, and said, "It was really crazy, fun and scary."

The three balls kept zigzagging, and she had to leave because her son was a little scared.

Around 2000, she was returning from an evening, and around 11 p.m., when she could see a little red light 3 or 4 meters off the ground; which was spinning at high speed. It passed the car on the right at a distance of about 5 meters.

At the time when she had first seen the star birghter than the other stars, she must have been ten years old and had a rather unusual encounter. Her school class was at the town clerk's house to do some DIY. As a few items were missing, the teacher sent her with a girl friend to pick them up at school.

Once outside, the girls saw "a stranger walking in the village." They went to school and on leaving, her girlfriend told her she needed to go to the toilets outside the school. They went together because she was afraid of "the stranger."

When they pushed the door, they were surprised to find themselves face to face with this stranger. Her girlfriend fled and the man asked her what was in this place. She replied, surprised: "the toilets." He entered and observed everything as if he saw it for the first time. Then she fled too, "thinking that he was stupid, this guy," since there was a sign clearly visible that the place was the toilets.

She describes the man as blond, square haircut, medium size, jacket with large red and yellow squares. She never saw him again.

[Ref. gri1:] WITNESS REPORT TO THE G.R.E.P.I. WEBSITE:

It was 30 years ago already (testimony received January 20, 2005 - GREPI) that it all started, and always from November to January.

I did, just like the testimony by Stephanie (page 28), observe a star brighter than the others. It started to move from the right through the mountain and continued its path along the mountain to the left. When a plane came along, it remained still then, when the plane was gone, it continued its trajectory. I saw it at about six o'clock in the evening and followed it by foot to the farm where I was looking for milk. Then it passed the mountain, and I saw it more. Then it came back at about eight o'clock. I watched it several days and several years.

One day I decided to change my path. Taking my bike, I went out of town and I continued to the edge of the forest, more in the heights from the village and at the foot of another hill that faced this phenomenon.

There, I watched as usual, but instead of passing the mountain as it always did, it stopped at three-quarters of its way and changed its trajectory. It came at me and became ever larger, 20 to 30 times larger than the Northern Star, maybe more. I was very scared. As it approached me, it grew and was brighter. It passed over me and when it was over the hill, it illuminated much of the forest. Then I went back as quickly as possible to the village.

17 years later, I returned to my native village. It was a November evening and I was accompanied by my little 6 years old boy.

It was on leaving the village to leave my home, that I saw three bright balls which began to zigzag. I felt they were playing soccer, but with incredible rapidity.

I got out of my car to look better. It was really crazy, fun and scary.

They did not stop zigzagging all three. I had to leave because my son was a little scared.

I read the testimony of Christopher (Tourcoing - France- page 28) and I think what he saw was much like the three balls.

About 5 years ago, I came home one evening. Towards 11 o'clock I could see a little light a little reddish 3 to 4 meters above the ground, which was traveling at high speed. It exceeded the car to the right at a distance of about 5 meters.

At the time I saw this bright star I must have been ten years old and I made a rather unusual encounter.

My whole school class was visiting the town clerk there to do crafts. As was missing a few things, the teacher sent us looking for them, a friend and I, to school.

But outside, we could see a stranger walking around the village.

So we went to school and, on leaving, my girlfriend told me she had to use the toilets that were outside the school. We went together because she was afraid of this stranger.

When we opened the door, we were surprised to find ourselves face to face with the stranger. My girlfriend fled and the man asked me what was in that place. I replied surprised: the toilet. He entered and observed everything as if seeing them for the first time. Then I also fled, thinking he was very stupid that chap. Yet there was the clearly visible ["Toilet"] sign that explained what it was.

This man was blond, square cut, medium in size with a jacket with large red and yellow tiles. I have not seen him since that day.

Discussion:

Each of these events can find an "ordinary" explanation, more or less likely, none of them have anything clearly "alien" in the ufological sense of the term.

The star larger than a star could be a planet, Venus for example, which resembles a star larger than a star. Its "stops" and "restarts" at the passage of planes can be a simple autokinetic effect.

Of course, as there is no specific date or time and especially no direction of observation - it is not even sure that these observations took place in Alsace - any bulletproof verification is impossible.

The observation of "the star" made when the witness took a different path than the usual one seems less compatible with an astronomical misinterpretation, but could be another kind of mistake (plane, helicopter ... no absence of noise is mentioned.)

The stranger in the village, with his red-and-yellow squares jacket, his absurd inspection of the toilets as if he had never seen toilets, does not make me think of anything like an extraterrestrial being, but rather something right out of a John Keel book - so it is not just West Virginia that knows such stories. But in itself, any "out of the ordinary" explanation would be more "daring" than an ordinary explanation: a man with some psychological, or even psychiatric, troubles.

It should be noted that GREPI corrects errors in spelling and grammar before publishing the statements they receive. So do not think it would be a fact that the person writes quite well; we do not know that.
