ACUFO:

ACUFO is my comprehensive catalog of cases of encounters between aircraft and UFOs, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ACUFO catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file.

East of Okinawa, Japan, on May or June 1945:

Case number:

ACUFO-1945-05-00-OKINAWA-1

Summary:

US ufologist Jerome Clark indicated in his 2003 book "Strange Skies - Pilot Encounters with UFOs" that in May or June 1945, the crew of a Marine transport plane flying east of Okinawa noticed something unusual in the cloudless sky about a quarter of a mile away. On first impression, the observers thought it was a large balloon, bit on second look they saw that it was an immense cylindrical-shaped structure, with three much smaller metallic discs behind. The discs then entered the cylinder, giving witnesses the clear impression that it was a carrier vessel. The cylinder then shot off at a fantastic speed.

In his ufology database, US ufologist Larry Hatch gave the source as the monograph "From airships to Arnold: a catalogue of UFO reports in the early 20th century (1900-1946)", by Richard H. Hall, first published in 2000.

In later years there would be no shortage of reports of comparable disc-carrying cylinders, which ufologists would call "motherships."

May or June, 1945; Okinawa

Daylight. The crew of a Marine transport witnessed a cylindrical object with three smaller dics which appeared to enter the larger object, then took off with tremendous acceleration. (NICAP)

Aircraft information:

All that we are told is that the plane was a Marine transport plane.

Discussion:

Map.

The case is obviously extraordinary, but its credibility is not assured; it is not known where the story comes from, no witnesses are named, etc.

Evaluation:

Possible extraterrestrial craft, unknown credibility.
