The regional newspaper La Gazette Provenšale, of Avignon, reported in its December 15, 1954, issue, that in the morning around 10 a.m. in the rue Jules-Vernet, onlookers had gathered to observe a tiny white craft, visible in the sky, and everyone was shouting: "it's a saucer", whereas it was just a weather balloon.

This morning, around 10 a.m. in the rue Joseph-Vernet, onlookers gathered to observe a tiny white machine, visible in the sky. Of course, everyone was to exclaim,

- It's a flying saucer!

It was simply a weather balloon!
