The article below was published in the daily newspaper Var-Matin - République, Toulon, France, on September 5, 1954.

In the sky of Bavaria, flying saucers and mysterious planes

Munich, September 4. -- A flat machine, of circular form and with "frayed" edges was seen yesterday morning above the locality of Obersuessbach (Bavaria) by a number of people busy gathering hop, DPA agency reports.

The village teacher, who first saw the apparatus, stated that it moved at high speed from East to West. All the witnesses are unanimous to state that it was clearly visible against the clear sky, and that they could not have been victim of an optical illusion.

In addition, the American authorities currently proceed to an investigation to check the statements of some residentsof the village of Landshut who state to have seen a plane flying at very low altitude to release hundreds of balloons. Those would have burst at approximately 100 meters of the ground and from their envelopes "something" reportedly escaped which would have resembled swarms of insects.
