In the American sky

Mysterious "flying saucers"

The latest fashion in the United States consists in looking up in the air and seeking in the sky mysterious "bolides" which, for a few days, hit the news.

Last week, indeed, nine mysterious projectiles were seen crossing the sky in the state of Washington, at an apparent speed of almost 2000 km per hour.

Similar phenomena were reported thereafter from El Paso in Texas, Vancouver, and many other places.

All the assumptions put forth to explain the origin of this are successively abandoned.

It was thought that it was the "Flying Pancake" or some wingless plane, but the naval authorities let know that the "pancake" had not left its base.

One had also talked about effects of light on the clouds or even of the explosion of a meteor, but according to the experts these theories do not resist examination.

However, a similar phenomenon was reported in Canada where a "giant star" crossed the space close to the island Prince Edward.

According to Canadian witnesses, these fast flying objects resemble a "tea cup saucer" and cross the horizon in thirty second without emitting any noise, while releasing a fulgurating gleam.

On both sides, radar sets reported no presence of any strange body in the sky and the army states to have fired no jet projectile.

The mystery of the "flying saucers" remains whole. (A.P.)
