The article below was published in the daily newspaper L'Echo du Bas Saint-Laurent, Canada, on June 8, 1967.
A mysterious and unidentified object was seen by two people from Ste-Angèle (Gaspésie), early in the night of Friday, June 2.
This strange object appeared around 2:30 a.m. on the night of Thursday to Friday, while Mr. and Mrs. Landry were returning to their home, located on Chemin Rivière-Métis-Sud, between Ste-Angèle and St-Donat, after spending the evening in Luceville.
Mr. and Mrs. Landry described the object as possibly being a flying saucer, measuring approximately 40 feet in diameter by 25 feet in height, which projected very violent rays of light.
It was Mr. Landry who first saw a luminous red object that was "swinging" in the sky. He then said nothing to his wife, who was driving the car, for fear of alarming her.
Noticing that the saucer was following the car, at first from a distance, then getting closer, Mr. Landry asked his wife if she saw a strange object in the sky. Mrs. Landry answered yes "at that time, I was stressed," said Mr. Landry.
"This saucer followed us for about 25 minutes, always getting closer. It was all red like the setting sun, and it hurt my eyes to look at it."
At a certain point, the saucer cut across the path in front of Mr. and Mrs. Landry's car, just before reaching an intersection, and it headed toward a neighboring field, near the crossroads. The saucer stopped for a few minutes about 3 feet off the ground, on land belonging to Mr. Jos Langlois.
Mr. and Mrs. Landry, who were beginning to have fears and doubts about this shiny object, were driving at about five miles per hour.
"When I saw the saucer stopped, about 180 feet from our car, I thought it was over for us and I was scared," said Mrs. Landry.
Panicked and under the effect of shock, Mrs. Landry pressed the accelerator, in order to get away from the craft. This is when the saucer flew away above the trees, towards the south, by the mountain, at an incredible speed.
"It moved at a speed of at least 200 miles per hour," said Mr. Landry, still amazed by what he saw.
The two witnesses did not think to stop to examine the craft. "We did not know what could happen to us," they said.
Mr. and Mrs. Landry did not hear any noise coming from the "flying saucer", the muffler of their 57 Chevrolet being defective.
According to them, the rim of the saucer, seen up close, when it was moving, was luminous red almost phosphorescent. "In the center, it looked like a big globe which projected violent rays, of all colors." From a distance, the saucer appeared red.
Following this adventure, Mrs. Landry's nerves were affected; she had to see a doctor. She is recovering from this adventure that she is not ready to forget.
Informed by the doctor visited by Mrs. Landry, the chief of the municipal police of Mont-Joli, Mr. Albert Bell, undertook a meticulous examination of the ground where the saucer came to rest. These searches did not reveal anything that could provide any clue and facilitate the identification of this flying object.
Other witnesses
On the same night, a woman from the third row of Luceville, whose identity we do not know, saw the same luminous object, at the height of her house.
In addition, a flying object, which looked like a "large orange", was seen by several people on three occasions, in Rimouski, early in the morning of Sunday.
A man from Trois-Pistoles also saw what could be a "flying saucer", during the same period of time.
