A flying "melon" over Alsace

AFTER saucers, cigars, brooms, barrels, melons have now joined the dance. This fruit has indeed just made an appearance... in the sky of Alsace.

Several people, including some pilots from the Strasbourg Aero-Club, claim to have seen, the other day, a luminous craft shaped like a melon flying over the Bas-Rhin region. It was reportedly sighted, almost at the same time, in Strasbourg, Haguenau, and Wissembourg.

The flying saucer moved at high altitude and was heading, according to some, southeast, and according to others, east-west.

IN POMMIERS (Pas-de-Calais), Chief Warrant Officer Decrequy and a gendarme observed in the sky an orange-colored craft moving from east to west at about five hundred meters altitude. This phenomenon was also noticed by several people in the locality.

IN BRAIN (Nièvre), Messrs. Perrault and Veillerot were working in the fields when they saw a luminous ball moving at high altitude, which suddenly disappeared after descending fairly low.

NEAR SAINTES (Charente-Maritime), Mr. Menier, a construction foreman, accompanied by his wife and children, saw a craft rising vertically from behind a hedge. The luminous trail left by this mysterious aircraft shifted from bright red to blue as it gained speed.
