Tulle, September 14. -- Eyewitnesses to flying saucer sightings are now legion across France. It only took Mr. Dewilde claiming to have seen one on a railway line near Valenciennes - and describing its two occupants in perfect alignment with the stereotypical Martians of science fiction - for memories to surface and tongues to loosen.
In Onnaing, 70 kilometers away, a young man, Mr. Auveriot [sic], and a retiree, Mr. Hublard, reported seeing a red glow moving across the sky on the same day and at the same time. More surprisingly, the wife of a farmer in Corrèze, encouraged by these events, confided first to neighbors, then to authorities, the frightening experience of her husband, Mr. Antoine Mazaud. On September 10, he encountered a stranger of average height wearing a motorcycle helmet without ear coverings. The figure extended a hand in greeting and, while uttering incomprehensible words, suddenly rushed in to kiss him.
The farmer's surprise reportedly turned into shock when the "Martian" - yet another one! - stepped over a bank and boarded a cigar-shaped craft, which then took off vertically with a kind of buzzing sound.
