VALENCIENNES, September 12. -- A resident of Carouble [sic] near Valenciennes, Mr. Marius Dewilve [sic], 34 years old, a worker at the Nord de la France workshops in Blanc-Misseron, living at railroad crossing No. 79, stated that on Friday evening, around 10 p.m., his attention was drawn by the barking of his dog.
He immediately went outside, armed with his flashlight, and saw on the railway line running alongside his home, in a particularly deserted area, a dark, oval-shaped mass. It may have been 6 meters long and 2 meters high.
Pointing his flashlight in another direction, Mr. Dewilve saw two strange, stocky men whose height did not exceed 1.2 meters, moving quickly toward the craft. These men had short heads on which the flashlight beams seemed to reflect as if they were glass globes.
A few moments later, a square of intense light appeared on the side of the craft. The witness reportedly closed his eyes, and when he reopened them, the light and the strange beings had disappeared.
The craft, swaying slightly, rose vertically while emitting smoke. Upon reaching about ten meters above the ground, the lower part of the craft turned red and it quickly vanished.
