Official, France:

In France, there is still no equivalent of the Freedom of Information Acts (FOIA) as it is now applied to some official UFO information in the majority of other countries, USA, United Kingdom, Spain, Italy etc. In France, and only in theory, information is supposedly possibly accessible 60 years after its date. (Thus 2014 for UFO cases of 1954 etc). It is only if you are "Somebody of Importance" such as TV journalist Jean-Claude Bourret in the 70's, or if you have "Friends Inside", or if you beg enough, that you can maybe pick up some documents.

A tall tale of 1955:

These documents were reproduced in the ufological literature long ago.

National gendarmerie, regional command of the gendarmerie, the 2nd military area, 2nd legion bis, group of Seine-Maritime, company [-], brigade [-], #1008 of November 19, 1960.

This day November 21, 1960, P[-] V[-], sergeant majors, the undersigned, R[-] E[-] and M[-] P[-], gendarmes with the brigade [-] in the Seine-Maritime, report the following operations that we carried out acting in uniforms and in accordance with the orders of our chiefs.

On November 19, 1960 at 07:30 p.m., on duty in [-] in the Seine-Maritime, proceeding to an investigation about the alleged landing of a flying saucer in the forest of [-] and of which the named C[-] R[-] living near the places where the facts would have passed is said to have been the witness. We heard B[-] R[-], fifty years old, mayor of the community of [-] whos stated:

"I grant no credence to the claims of C[-] R[-]. This man underwent many trials for stealing and breach of trust. In the capacity of administrator of the community of [-] for eight years, I have had the opportunity on several occasions to get complaints of people whom he swindled. These offences could have been of very great importance, without my intervention. Moreover Mr. C[-] spends two thirds of its time in prison. This incident proves that information is given to the public lightly. It is, indeed, abnormal that the press, the radio and television give such a publicity to unverified claims since in the present case, it is of public notoriety that the personality of C[-] is more than doubtful."

On November 20, 1960; we continue the investigation, we heard C[-], aged quarante-huit years, roofer-zinc worker, resident of [-] who stated at 11 hours:

Saturday, November 5, at approximately 08:30 p.m., I noticed gleams in the sky seeming to come from an apparatus which came from the direction of the east. Alternatively, these gleams of green, orange and red colors came out of this apparatus of which I can tell you the shape. I called my friend Mrs. C[-], who, like me, noted the facts. In the night from the 12th to the 13th of November at approximately 02:45, not being able to sleep, I was smoking a cigarette, lying on my bed. I was rather in a state of somnolence at this time. Suddenly my attention was drawn by a clearness of green color entering in my room. I sat down on the bed then I moved towards the window and I noticed that this gleam moved. I awoke my friend who told me to leave her alone, that it did not interest her. Puzzled, I went to the door of my kitchen but I did not go outside. There was moonlight and the sky was starry, suddenly, I saw within 150 meters approximately from the place I was, an apparatus of round form which landed on the railway or on the bottom of the unused railway tracks of [-]-[-]. This apparatus had a diameter from 5 to 6 meters and an approximate height of 2 meters. It was posed on a kind of tripod, approximately 1.80 meter in height. At this time, beams of light of orange color, as flashes would do it, left the apparatus in direction of the ground. In addition, I could count eight rays of light of green color, probably leaving port-holes and illuminating the inside of the apparatus. I did not notice any human presence in this apparatus nor in its vicinity. It remained on the ground for twenty minutes approximately, I did not move from the place and I looked at it, amazed. At no time did I perceive noise coming from an engine or anything. At takeoff, part of the head of the machine started to turn, the ailerons left this part and also turned laterally. The tripod also turned laterally. I then to give you the exact number of these ailerons.

The apparatus took altitude without making noise, moved in the south-western direction, emitting green fires alternatively. The next morning, I went on the spot and I did not notice any trace left by the apparatus. I have a bitch who has a niche located near the railway and opposite the entry door of my kitchen; this animal is very trustworthy, however during that night, it did not move nor barked. The next day, it accompanied me on the spot, but arrived at the place, it made a half-turn at once while groaning. I affirm that I state the truth and do not invent anything, moreover, I would not have remained without reason half an hour awake. I spoke about it the next day with various people who advised me to warn about these facts the journalist of Paris Normandie. I went to meet that journalist.

Having read, I persist and sign.

At 12 hours, in company of C[-] R[-], we went on the spot where the apparatus described by the interested party would have landed. We did not find any trace at this place, nor on the ground neither on the railway, only a cross made with chalk by C[-] R[-] on a support cross-piece of the railway indicates where the apparatus would have been posed. According to the statements of the interested party, the total width at this place is 9 meters, the forest shows a depression marked enough in the direction of south-west over a 300 meters length approximately. The railway is unused since many years and only one way remains.

We continue the investigation, heard T[-] R[-], thirty-eight years old, housewife, resident with [-], who stated at 12:15:

In the evening of November 5, 1960, my friend C[-] called me outside and showed me gleams of yellow, orange, green, red colors which moved rather slowly in the sky, it was not a plane, on the contrary the machine seemed to toss in the sky. In the night from November 12th to 13th, 1960, around 3 o'clock, my friend woke me up and told me to look in direction of the window, I opened the eyes and I saw lights of green, orange, red and yellow colors which flickered in the sky. It did not interest me, I told my friend to leave me aline. I could note that he had been standing; as for myself I fell asleep again. It is the next day morning that he told me that he had seen the apparatus in the shape of a saucer being posed on the railway which goes by opposite on our premises. I told him: why didn't you go to look closer? He answered that he had been afraid; ignoring what it was, he feared to get into troubles. It often happens that my friend wakes up at night, not sleeping, he then smokes without interruption. I state that in the evening of November 12 he was in his normal state, for it happens to him to drink [alcohol from time to time. Three or four wine glasses are enough for getting him completely drunk, and at such times he is not himself any more. I have the impression that sometimes he has crisis of mental disturbance, it happens that during such crisi I have to leave the house and to take refuge in the forest with my children to avoid being hit. I believe however that he tells the truth since I could note myself, a week before, the same gleams.

Heard at 12:30 M[-], fifty-eight years old, housewife remaining with [-] who stated:

The house I live in is within 300 meters approximately of that occupied by C[-] R[-], at no time did I see, by day or night, a suspect apparatus in the sky. I make a point of specifying that my son and my daughter-in-law are often awaked at night by their four months old child; finally, I state that my children and myself never saw anything in the sky, just as we never heard suspicious noises except that of the planes that often fly overhead.

Heard at 12:45, D[-], roadmender of the SNCF [National Railway Company] residing in [-] who states:

My dwelling is located at one kilometer approximately in the North-East of that occupied by C[-], I am often on night shift at the railway crossing #27 which is within two kilometers approximately from C[-]'s, I was not on duty in the night from the 12th to 13th of November, 1960; during my duty times, I never saw machines nor anything suspicious in the sky. I do not grant any consideration to what C[-] might say.

Heard at 03:30 p.m., M[-], sixty-three years old, guard-pastoral of the community of [-] who states:

It is by the way of the press that I learned that a flying saucer was said to have landed very near to C[-]'s house; for my part all the statements of this person leave me skeptic and I do not believe anything he says. C[-], as I know him, is capable of making all this up, if only for having people talk about him. From the contacts which I have with the population, it results that nobody in [-] noticed anything unusual in the night from the 12th to the 13th of November 1960.

Heard at 03:15 p.m. Mr. C[-], sixty-three years old, city council man in [-] who states:

I know C[-] well and I learned by the press that he had seen a flying saucer landing near his home in the forest of [-]. For my part, I do not believe this thing and I do not attach any importance to the statements of the man because of his doubtful morality and his background.

Heard at 5 p.m., L[-], sixty-two years old, tradesman in [-] who states:

I do not believe a thing in the statements made to the press by C[-] about the landing a flying saucer near his house. Of doubtful morality, not having any scruple, C[-], as I know him, is capable of making up the worst silly things. Nobody in [-] to my knowledge noticed anything unusual about the appearance of the so-called flying saucer.

November 21, continuing the investigation, we, gendarme R[-], heard at 3 p.m., B[-], fifty one yearsold, railway employee in [-] who stated:

I was on guard at the railway crossing #30 in [-] in the night from the 12th to the 13th of November, 1960. Approximately twenty trains go by there between 0 hour and 4 hours. I thus had to go outside on several occasions as well for the traffic as for the trains. I did not notice anything unusual in the sky during this night. The station [-] is within approximately 3 kilometers in straight line from the dwelling of C[-] who claims to have seen a flying saucer that night.

As for myself, I do not believe anything of the statements of this man, it rather often happens that planes flying at rather high altitude pass in the night above the forest. Sometimes, it is easy to see the flashing lights of the planes which are of red color, green and yellow I believe.

At 03:30 p.m., heard P[-], twenty-five years old, remaining gate-keeper with [-] who stated:

It is me wo was on guard of the level crossing #27 [-] in the night from the 12th to the 13th of November, 1960. From my location, I can see all that occurs around me. In my opinion, being within one kilometer approximately in straight line from the house of C[-], I should have seen whether something unusual were in the sky above the forest. I did not notice any gleam during this night, no more than the other nights. During my night shift, I have to go outside frequently as well for the passage the trains as for the motor vehicle traffic on [-] which passes in front of my door. I heard nobody in the surroundings say that he had noticed the passage of this so-called flying saucer. For my part, I believe that C[-] wanted to make a joke.
