OCTOBER 8, 1978, LOWTON, MANCHESTER, U-K., MR. AND MRS. TRANTER:

Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

British ufologists Peter Hough and Stephen Balon reportedly told in the Northern UFO News bulletin, issue 55, that in Lowton, Manchester, U-K., on October 8, 1978, at 2330, a man driving with his sleeping wife suddenly caught in his headlights a figure standing in the middle of the grassy area in the center of the A580 motorway.

The figure was human-like, over 6 feet tall and was wearing a shiny silvery garment, like a silver-foil suit.

One of the second-hand sources says the couple's name was Tranter, and the Woman saw a "figure of miner, in old-style uniform", floating in air above the grass.

The figure was encased in an orange glow, and the man could still see the orange glow on the roadway as drove on and looked back.

"Earlier" or "30 minutes earlier", in the same area other people reportedly saw a large lighted object with a silvery dome and three bumps underneath, or a "disc with orange dome", descend slowly towards the road.

Points to consider:

With the differences in the supplied information in the secondary sources I have here, it is a shame I do not have the primary version which is probably richer and clearer.

I would think of a confusion - for example a person really wearing a fireproof oufit, for some reason - but what about the orange glow which bathes him? Some emergency light?

Old miner outfit,
Manchester area.

Fireman silver outfit.
