Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

In the contemporary newspaper, a story appeared that said businessman Alejandro Hernandez claimed that as he was driving in southern Chile on September 24, 1978, he spotted a huge saucer overhead.

The saucer hovered over his car and swallowed it. Inside, he said, five bulky figures stuffed his 13-year-old son into a box while a sixth interviewed Hernandez in a metallic voice. It is claimed witnesses reported watching the car, with frightened father and son inside, descend to the road afterwards.

Later sources in the ufology litterature do not mention the son being stuffed in a box and add that both witnesse saw devices with multicolored lights looking like casino machines, that there was some conversation between the father and the creatures, that the latter pointed up when he asked where they came from, that the creatures were very tall and human-looking, dressed in metallic-looking outfits, and that they seemed to know the witness' name.

As of newspaper La Razon, they apparently reported that Alejandro Hernandez Perez said that on September 24 he and his son were abducted on board a craft manned by beings who he believed were from an advanced terrestrial civilization. They spoke in Spanish in a "firm and steady voice, although with a metallic sound like that of a speaker talking through a microphone." He was asked not to reveal what was discussed pending a new predicted encounter.

In addition to differences between some versions, the dating in the late sources varies from "1979" to "August 24, 1978", "September 24, 1978", "September 26, 1978".

John Schuessler indicates that on 1978/09/24, in Chile, in Santiago, at 1930, businessman Alejandro Hernandez and his 13-year old son encountered a luminous object flying toward their car. When it stopped above the car, the car began to vibrate and they were paralyzed until the car was inside the UFO. The boy was taken from the car by several large beings. He immediately lost consciousness. Later the father was taken from the car also.

John Schuessler lists the effects as an abduction, paralysis, unconsciousness.

He indicates the sources as The News World, New York, NY, Oct 2, 1982; and La Razon, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Sept 28, 1978.

Keith Basterfield indicates that on 24 September 1978 at 19:30 in Santiago, Chile, businessman Alejandro Hernandez and his 13-year-old son encountered a luminous object flying toward their car. When it stopped above the car, the car began to vibrate and they were paralysed until the car was inside the UFO. The boy was taken from the car by several large beings. He immediately lost consciousness. Later the father was also taken from the car.

Keith Basterfield indicates that the case was reported in 1978.

Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that near Santiago, Chile, on September 26, 1978, at night, Alejandro Hernandez and his 13-year old son had gone for a drive in an area southeast of the capital. Suddenly Hernandez felt a strange sensation that seemed to slow the car down. Looking out the window he saw a hovering object. A hatch opened on the object and the vehicle and its two occupants rose up into the craft. Inside they saw five short figures surrounded by an incredibly bright light that approached their vehicle. One of them spoke in a metallic voice and ordered them to exit the vehicle. Once outside the car the witnesses saw numerous apparatuses with red and orange lights. Upon asking the humanoids where they were from, these remained silent but all pointed upwards. After 10 minutes both witnesses were deposited back to the ground. There were apparently other witnesses to this incident.

Albert Rosales indicates that the source is "El mundo de las Enigmas".

Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that in the south of Santiago, Chile in 1979, at an unknown time, Alejandro Hernandez and his 13-year old son were driving in the area, when suddenly the elder Hernandez looked out the window and saw a strange object hovering directly above their car. On the bottom area of the object a large door began opening. The car began to vibrate and was suddenly lifted up into the object. Both witnesses sat stunned in their vehicle and watched five and six tall human like figures approached the car. The beings wore shiny metallic outfits. One of the strangers, in a metallic sounding voice ordered the younger Hernandez to exit the vehicle, afraid he obeyed his hosts. Meanwhile his father was able to observe numerous instruments, which he described as beautiful and resembling casino slot machines. These instruments emitted multicolored beams of light. Later he was able to conversed for 15 minutes with the humanoids, which seemed to know his name already. He asked them where they were from and all they did was raise their hands and point upwards. Soon Mr. Hernandez and his son were deposited back on the ground.

The website indicates that on August 24, 1978, at night, in La Serena, El Arrayan Ravine, Chile, a luminous craft of huge size descended on a highway, very big in size. Two beings of human shape each wearing a luminous helmet paralyzed a male witness, he tried to run, fainted on the roadway. Physiological effects were noted.

The differences between versions may indicate that the entire story was not told in ufology sources, that "embarrasing" details that sounded too sciencefictionnesque were sometimes left out.
