JULY 8, 1978, LEMPDES, PUY-DE-DOME, FRANCE, A MAN:

Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

Probably based on the newspaper article in La Montagne, ufologists noted that in the night from July 8 to 9, 1978, an unnamed motorist approaching of Lempdes in the Puy-of-Dome saw a sharp white gleam at some 300 meters of him on the road.

He first thought it was a road accident, with lights of police cars or ambulances.

When he arrived on the spot, in a turn of the road, he saw that the gleam came from a mass of approximately five meters in height, with a rounded top, surmounted by a white light almost dazzling, with the base hidden by the rise of ground just at the edge of the road.

The motorist then did not know anymore what that could be, and while passing by at slow pace, at the level of this mass, he saw silhouettes of normal human shape, helmeted and wearing tight-fitted clothing he compared to astronauts outfits. The figures were inside the mass, visible through a transparent wall.

When he looked back little further, there was nothing to see anymore.

He arrived home, and his wife and his mother told him that they had seen two mysterious luminous points in the sky close to their home. One was orange red, the other green, and they disappeared after ten seconds at an amazing speed, separating after several sudden zigzag.

It was at this time that the motorist thought that what he had seen at the edge of the road was perhaps a "UFO".

The next day, he went back on the place of the sighting with his family, and at the entry of a dirt track, on a slope, he found the high grass lying as under the effect of a violent wind blow, the grass or the bushes not being burned nor broken. On the ground, there was a deep mark of triangular form of 60 to 70 cm on side, like that of a triangular support which would have been hollow in its center.

According to the traces, the craft must have measured approximately three meters in diameter, and had been right under a power line.

The radar sets of the nearby airfield had recorded nothing special.

There was an investigation by the ufology group GEOVNI; which concluded that the case was "non-identified."

[Ref. it1:] I. TAHON:

I. Tahon noted in a digest of Press articles that on July 8, 1978, in the Puy-de-Dome, according to the newspaper "La Montagne" for August 2, 1978:

"About midnight, an inhabitant of Lempdes, while returning home, saw on a slope at the side pf the road a mass of approximately 5 meters in height, the top rounded like an umbrella, surmounted by a dazzling white light. The witness could also see inside the machine human silhouettes helmeted and covered of tight-fitted clothes. Having moved away from the phenomenon, the witness, when he looked back, did not see it any more. Traces were found the nest day at the place of the observation."

[Ref. pd1:] PIERRE DELVAL:

The author notes that in the night from the 8th to the 9th of July 1978, a motorist approaching of Lempdes in the Puy-of-Dome saw a sharp white gleam at some 300 meters of him on the road.

He immediately thought of an accident, lights of police cars or ambulances.

When he arrived on the spot, in a turn, he realized that the gleam came from a mass of approximately five meters in height, with the top rounded in the shape of a dome, overcome of a white light, almost blinding, and of which it could not distinguish the base. The thing stationed on a ground slope just beside the road.

The motorist then did not know anymore what that could be, and while passing by at slow pace, at the level of the thing, he saw silhouettes of normal human shape, helmeted and wearing tight-fitted clothing comparable to those of astronauts, whom he could see through a transparent wall of the object.

He looked back little further and did not see a light any more.

Arrived home, he learned from his wife and his mother that they had seen two mysterious luminous points in the sky close to their home. One was orange red, the other green, and they "disappeared after ten seconds at an amazing speed", separating after several sudden zigzag.

It was at this time that the motorist started to realize that "he had perhaps encountered a UFO."

The next day, he went on the spot with his family, and at entry of a dirt track, on a slope, the high grass was lying as under the effect of a violent wind blow, the grass or the bushes not being burned nor broken. On the ground, there was a deep mark of triangular form of 60 to 70 cm on side, as that of a triangular support which would have been hollow in its center.

According to the traces, the craft must have measured approximately three meters in diameter, and had been right under a power line.

The radar sets of the nearby airfield had recorded nothing special.

In an extract of his Francat catalogue, Michel Figuet recorded:

[Ref. ar1:] ALBERT ROSALES:

Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that in, Lempdes, Puy De Dome, France, on July 8, 1978, at midnight, a motorist sees a sharp white gleam of light some 300 meters ahead on the road. As he arrives at the curve, he sees that the gleam comes from a mass approximately 5 m in height of which he does not distinguishes the base and which is positioned over a quay on the side of the road. The top was rounded in the form of a dome, surmounted by a white light. As he drove by he saw through a transparent wall of the object numerous human like figures wearing helmets and tight-fitting combination suits.

He drove away and later came back with his wife and her mother who saw two zigzagging luminous points of red-orange and green lights. At the spot ground traces were found.

Albert Rosales indicates that the sources are Denys Breysse's Project Becassine, and Pierre Delval's Contacts of the 4th type.

[Ref. lc1:] LUC CHASTAN:

Luc Chastan records the close visual observation with characters in the Puy de Dômes (63) in Lempdes on July 8, 1978 at 11:59 p.m., with a half sphere from 2 to 5 meters, shining white, on the ground, and entities of average size (1m65) with clearly identified clothing, and traces on the ground.

His summary indicates that "the witness is on a motorbike when he observes a white gleam 300m ahead on the road. When he arrived in the turn, he saw that the light was a mass of roughly 5 m in height from which he did not distinguish the base and which was positioned on the edge of the road. The top was in the shape of dome surmounted by a white light. He sees while driving and through a kind of transparent wall, several human shapes, wearing tight-fitted outfits and helmets. The witness continued his travel. Coming back few moments later with two other people only two green and red zigzaging lights were seen. On the landing spot traces were observed."

The website indicates that on July 8, 1978, in Lempdes, Puy-de-Dome, France, at midnight, a motorist saw a sharp white gleam of light some 300 meters ahead on the road. As he came to the curve, he saw that the gleam came from a mass approximately 5 meters in height. He was unable to observe the base of the object, which was below the side of the road. The top was rounded in the form of a dome, surmounted by a white light.

As he drove by, he saw through a transparent wall in the UFO numerous human like figures wearing helmets and tight-fitting suits. He drove away but soon came back with his wife and her mother, who saw two zigzagging luminous points of reddish-orange and green lights. Ground traces were found at the site.

The website indicates that the source is Albert S. Rosales, Humanoid Contact Database 1978, case #1721, citing Denys Breysse, Project Becassine, and Pierre Delval, Contacts of the 4th Type.

The website adds, "An object was observed. Ground traces were found. One dome-shaped object, about 20 feet across, was observed on a farm for two minutes. A humanoid, wearing a spacesuit and helmet, was seen."

And: "A motorist sees a sharp white gleam of light some 300 meters ahead on the road. Points to consider:

As it stands here, the information is sparse. At the time when he filtered out explained cases from is Francat catalogue, Michel Figuet indicates that there was an investigation by the GEOVNI group and that the cas is "non identified." It is very likely that more details and answers are to be found in their investigation report.
