MAY 18, 1969, RISING SUN, INDIANA, USA, GEORGE KAISER:

Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

In 1975, in a magazine of comic strips specialized in the stories of frightening monsters appeared, a comic strip introduced as telling the true story of "The Creature of the Lagoon of Rising Sun."

It tells on two pages that on May 18, 1969, the power went out at the house of the parents of young George Kaiser. He went outside to look, and at the nearby lagoon, he had an encounter with a weird beast, shown in the comic book as some sort of three toed gorilla with powerful leaping ability.

George Kaiser tried to get into his car, and meanwhile the creature turned, leapt across a lagoon's ditch and ran away in the night.

Kaiser reported his encounter the next morning, May 19, and large three-toed footprints were discovered near where he encountered the beast.

The next day, May 20, a neighbor of the Kaisers, Charles Rolfing, said he witnessed a UFO hovering over the area for almost eight minutes and then disappear.

In later sources, the story appeared either a an alien encounter of a "Bigfoot" encounter.

The comic book published a story that they said to be based on real events that occurred in Rising Sun, Indiana, with dates and names that are said to be the actual ones.

The story of the "Lagoon Creature of Rising Sun" tells in two pages by Doug Moench and Win Mortimer that on May 18, 1969, the power went out at the house of the parents of young George Kaiser. He went outside to investigate, and at the nearby lagoon, he had an encounter with a weird beast, shown in the comic book as some sort of three toed gorilla with powerful leaping ability.

[Ref. js1:] JACQUES SCORNAUX:

Jacques Scornaux indicates that in Rising Sun, in Indiana, USA, on May 19, 1969 towards 07:30, Mr. George Kaiser crossed the court of his farm to get to his tractor when he had the feeling of a presence and saw with 6 meters of him a 2.50 meter tall being, without neck, hairy, with a hairless and black face.

After having observed silently during two minutes, George Kaiser had a movement of withdrawal, and the entity then emitted a growl, jumped over a ditch and fled at an astonishing speed.

Traces with four toes including one large toe were found, whose dimensions are not indicated.

The same evening, another person saw an object emitting green and white rays pass above him.

Jacques Scornaux indicates that the source is "30" in a previous issue in page 64.

[Ref. jc1:] JEROME CLARK:

Jerome Clark noted the case in a section on alleged sightings of big hairy humanoids, indicating that in Rising Sun, Indiana, on May 19, 1969 at 07:30, George Kaiser was crossing his yard on his way to the tractor, when he spotted a strange figure standing 25 feet away.

Kaiser is quoted saying:

"I watched it for about two minutes before it saw me. It stood in a fairly upright position, although it was bent over about in the middle of its back, with arms about the same length as a normal human being's. I'd say it was about five-eight or so and it had a very muscular structure. The head sat directly on the shoulders, and the face was black, with hair that stuck out of the back of its head. It had eyes set close together, and with a very short forehead. It was covered with hair except for the back of the hands and the face. The hands looked like normal hands, not claws."

The creature grunted, turned around, leaped over a ditch, and run away fast down the road.

Plaster casts of the tracks left by the creature showed three toes plus a big toe.

[Ref. ar1:] ALBERT ROSALES:

Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that in Rising Sun, Indiana, on May 19, 1969 at 07:30 p.m., George Kaiser noticed a strange figure 25 feet away, the size of a man and covered with black fur.

The head sat directly on the shoulders and the face was black, with close-set eyes and very low forehead. When Kaiser made a move to get into his car, the creature grunted, jumped over a ditch, and ran down the road at high speed.

Footprints were found that showed only four toes.

On the following night, an object was observed over the same area by neighbors.

Albert Rosales indicates that the source is Jerome Clark and Loren Coleman.

[Ref. dj1:] DONALD JOHNSON:

Donald Johnson indicates that on May 19, 1969, at 07:30 p.m. CDT in Rising Sun, Indiana, George Kaiser noticed a strange figure 25 feet away, who was the size of a man and covered with black fur. Its head sat directly on its shoulders and its face was black with close-set eyes and a very low forehead.

When Kaiser made a move to get into his car, the creature grunted, jumped over a ditch, and ran down the road at high speed.

Footprints were found that showed only four toes. On the following night, a UFO was observed over the same area by neighbors.

Donald Johnson indicates that the source is HUMCAT: Catalogue of Humanoid Reports, case 1969-37, by David F. Webb and Ted Bloecher, citing Jerome Clark and Loren Coleman.

[Ref. bf1:] "BIGOOF FACT OF FANTASY?" WEBSITE:

A listing indicates that on May 19, 1969 near Rising Sun, Indiana, George Kaiser watched muscular black Bigfoot with no neck 25 feet away, and 3-toed tracks were found.

Points to consider:

This is a typical cover of the comic book that reported the alleged story:

It would obviously be necessary to determine whether there were a report prior to the story in the comic strip or not; but as things are so far, there is no founded reason to believe in the credibility of the story, which becomes, depending on the re-publishers, either a story of "Bigfoot" or a reported alien visitor.
