AUGUST 13, 1965, RENTON, WASHINGTON, USA, ELLEN GRACE RYERSON, LAURA JEAN RYERSON:

Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

Several ufology sources reported that on August 13, 1965, at about 7 a.m. or 07:30 a.m., Mr. Ryerson, from Renton, Washington, USA, dropped off by car his two daughters, Ellen Grace Ryerson, aged 16, and Laura Jean Ryerson, aged 13, close to Renton, at Yas Narita's bean field on Russel Road where the girls apparently worked.

As he drove away, Mr. Ryerson noticed two unusual "persons" walking along the side of the road next to the bean field.

Ellen Grace and Laura Jean approached these two very unusual beings, walking next to the bean field. At first, they thought it was people dressed in Halloween costumes, but as they got closer, they realized that they were something they had never seen before.

These "persons" were described as not human, grey colored "like stone", both wearing sleeveless purple vests with V collars over white shirts, and one was 5-foot 2-inches tall, the other 5-foot 5-inches tall, or both about such heights.

The first "person" was described as like a gnome and wrinkled, wearing a "funny little hat". He was dancing and jumping around in front of the other being as they approached. He was making a cackling sound that the girls thought sounded like laughter.

The other being had a very unusual head. His face was gray but the back of his head had a pulsating bulbous extension with veins showing through it. On the rest of his cranium there were large pores and this part of his head was white. His eyes were described as like a frog's eyes. In his mouth, he had a little pipe, and he was blowing on it and making a shrill sound.

The descriptions are somewhat differing in the ufology sources, which makes it impossible to differentiate exactly the descriptions of the two beings - some source even claim there were three beings. Mentioned are: expressionless faces, bulging eyes, white-domed heads with white dots where there is hair normally, gray shirt and pants, one was called "elf-like" or "a gnome", sizes being however quite similar for the two, or different. One source mentions that the clothes had deep pockets and one being had its hands in the pockets, so the girls did not see what its hands were like.

Ellen Grace feared that they were going to grab her, so she yelled at her sister to run. The girls fled, and when they looked back after running 50 feet the beings where nowhere to see.

The occurrence was apparently told to the local police in Kent and the Washington State Patrol, and then apparently appeared in the Press, then was published in various manner in numerous ufology sources.

Narratives:

[Ref. cl1:] CORAL LORENZEN:

Coral Lorenzen indicates that a report of entity without UFO from Washington in August 1965, concerning "three men of nonhuman appearance" seen by two girls close to Renton, according to Saucer News, that as usual did not indicate a newspaper source. Coral Lorenzen indicates that she uses the story all the same, fragmentary as it is, because she received " information on this vision from other sources."

According to this report, at approximately 07:30, one morning, two girls left their car on a road and three men who were in a bean field approached them. They had the dome-shaped head and bulging eyes, faces without any expression, gray eyes "like stone", and the lower part of their faces seemed strongly tanned. They were wearing sleeveless jerseys with a V collar of color crimson and white shirts underneath.

The girls were frightened and ran away 15 meters from these beings and when they looked back, they had disappeared.

[Ref. jv1:] JACQUES VALLEE:

In his catalogue of UFO landings, Jacques Vallée indicates that on August 13, 1965, at 07:00 a.m., in Renton, Washington, Ellen G. Ryerson, 16, and her sister, Laura, were going to work in a bean field when they observed three creatures about 1.60 meters tall, with bulging eyes, expressionless faces, white craniums, large pores, and a protrusion at the back of their heads. They wore purple jerseys and white shirts. They had disappeared when the running girls looked back.

Vallée indicates that his source is "FSR 66, 2."

[Ref. ia1:] IRA ADAMS:

Ira Adams compiled a number of newspaper clippings, one of them said that on Friday, August 13, 1965: "Near Kent, Washington, an exceptionally good description was given of aliens by two teenage girls. Yas Narita's bean field, near Kent at 7 a.m. that day reported to Kent police and the Washington State Patrol an experience that left them shaken - and you can take the report written by police any way you wish: 'Victim: Earth People. Complainants, Ellen Ryan, 16, and Laura Ryan, 13, said that at 7 a.m. Friday, they arrived at Yas Narita's bean field on the Russell Road, alighted from their car, and observed three strange persons, not of human breed. The girls got out of the car and started to walk into the bean field when approached by three individuals. Their attention was drawn by the strange dress and white-domed heads and protruding eyes of the individuals. The girls ran about 50-feet past the three and looked back and found them gone."

They described the individuals as between 5-foot 2-inches and 5-foot 5-inches tall, and their heads had white tops where humans have hair, with very large pores and a large protrusion on back of the head. The eyes were large and protruding and the face had no expression.' In one report the girls said the lower face appeared to be very tanned. In a report to the Washington State Police they said the faces were grey like stone. The individuals wore purple armless v-necked jerseys with white shirts underneath, they told police."

[Ref. go1:] GODELIEVE VAN OVERMEIRE:

The ufologist indicates that on August 13, 1965, in the USA, close to Kent, Washington, at approximately 07:30 in the morning, two girls, Ellen Ryan, aged 16, and Laura Ryan, aged 13, came out of their car on a road and three men (who according to source APRG were 1m85 and 1m90 tall) who were in a bean field (of Yas Narita according to APRG) approached them.

They had the head in the shape of domes (with white dots where there is hair normally according to APRG) and of the protuberant eyes. The faces did not have any expression, the eyes were gray like stone and the lower part of the face seemed strongly tanned. They carried jerseys without sleeves with V collars of color crimson, and white shirts underneath.

The frightened girls moved away running on 15 meters and when they looked back, they had disappeared. (They went to make a statement at the police according to APRG).

The ufologist indicates that the sources are Charles Bowen, "En quête des humanoïdes", J'ai Lu 1974, p. 204, who calls the place "Renton" instead of "Kent", and for information between parenthesis the source is APRG on the Internet in 1997.

A note of the ufologist indicates her astonishment that girls of 16 and 13 years old are in the car.

[But in many States of the USA, the driving licence can be obtained at age 16, and it seems that it was their father who drove to drop then off anyway.]

[Ref. jc1:] JOHN E. CHITTY:

The author claims that Ellen and Laura Ryerson were working in a bean field in Renton, Washington, on August 13, 1965, and claimed that three beings from a flying saucer attempted to chase them down, but the women escaped back to their car and drove away. The women described the beings as about 4.5 to 5 feet tall with scaly skin and huge protruding eyes like those reported in the Lonnie Zamora incident in Socorro and in the Andreasson affair. The author also comments that the webbed hands and feet and scaly skins of this case indicate an aquatic origin of the gray beings as in many other reports.

[Lonnie Zamora never described the UFO occupants in his sighting as claimed by this author.]

[Ref. dj1:] DONALD JOHNSON:

Donald Johnson indicates that on August 13, 1965, as he drove away after dropping off his two daughters, Mr. Ryerson noticed two unusual "persons" walking along the side of the road next to a bean field. His two teenagers, Ellen Grace Ryerson, age 16, and Laura Jean Ryerson, 13, in Renton, Washington approached these two very unusual beings, while walking next to the bean field at seven o'clock in the morning. The little men were grey colored "like stone", had no hair, and had large bulging eyes. The first "person" was described as like a gnome and wrinkled. He wore a funny little hat. He was dancing and jumping around in front of the other being as they approached. He was making a cackling sound that the girls thought sounded like laughter. The other being was approximately 5 feet tall. He had a very unusual head. His face was gray but the back of his head had a bulbous extension with veins showing through it. It pulsated. On the rest of his cranium there were large pores and this part of his head was white. His eyes were described as like a frog's eyes. In his mouth he had a little pipe, and he was blowing on it and making a shrill sound. The taller one wore shiny clothes, like satin. Both beings wore sleveless purple vests over white coveralls. Ellen feared that they were going to grab her, so she yelled at her sister to run. The girls fled, and when they looked back after running 50 feet the beings had completely vanished.

The website lists that on August 13, 1965, near Kent, Washington, USA, Ellen Ryan, aged 16, and Laura Ryan, aged 13, saw three strange persons "not of human breed" at Yas Narita's bean field on Russel Road at 0700. The beings were between 5 feet 2 inches and 5 feet 5 inches tall, their heads had white tops where humans have hair, with very large pores and a large protrusion on the back of the head. The eyes were large and protruding and the face had no expression. The skin color description were conflicting, either "very tanned" or "gray like stone" depending upon the report. The beings wore purple armless V-necked jerseys with white shirts underneath.

The web site indicates that the source is Ira Adams on the Internet.

[Ref. ar1:] ALBERT ROSALES:

Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that in Renton, Washington, on August 13, 1965, at 07:00 a.m. as he drove away after dropping off his two daughters, sisters, Ellen Grace, 16, and Laura Jean Ryerson, 13, next to a bean field, a Mr. Ryerson noticed two unusual "persons" walking along the side road of the bean field. As the girls walked along this road they approached the two very unusual people. The first "person" was like a gnome, little, gray wrinkled elf-like being. He wore a gray shirt and pants, and a funny little hat. He was dancing and jumping around in front of the other being as they approached closer and closer. He was cackling and the girls thought it sounded like laughter. The other being was approximately 5 ft tall. He had a very unusual head. His face was gray but the back of his head had a bulbous extension with veins showing through it. It pulsated. On the rest of his cranium there were large pores and this part of his head was white. His eyes were described as like a frog's eyes. In his mouth he had a little pipe. He was blowing in it and making a shrill sound. The tallest one wore shiny clothes, like satin. The top was purple and it was put together with the pants into once piece. The top had deep pockets and it had its hands in the pockets so they did not see what its hands were like. At first the girls thought they were dressed in Halloween costumes, but as they got closer they realized that this was something they had never seen before. The oldest girl felt that they were going to grab her. Fear filled her body and she yelled to the other girl to run. They had just purchased new shoes and they didn't want to run into the muddy field. When they looked back both beings had completely disappeared.

Albert Rosales indicates as source Jerome Clark, FSR Vol. 12 #2, also Leneesa Garoutte in "Alternate Perceptions On line Magazine" February 2005, and that the second source indicates that there were 3 girls and has a more detailed description of what actually transpired.

Points to consider:

In the worst scenario, this could be entirely an invention of James Moseley or Gray Barker via their whimsical bulletin "Saucer News".

It could also be an occurrence really reported to the police and possibly the Press thereafter. However, it appears that it is an uninvestigated occurrence at best, and there is a possibility that the two girls indeed saw some people disguized in "monsters" for some party of gathering. Contrarily to the claims of some sources, there was no flying saucer involved.
