1959, CARROLL COUNTY, MARYLAND, USA, A POLICE OFFICER:

Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

It seems that a local newspaper reported in 1959 that in Carroll County, Maryland, in 1959, at night, while on duty, a police officer saw a huge hairy bipedal creature cross a dirt road in front of his car, and step over a barbed wire fence.

Narratives:

[Ref. jb1:] JANET AND COLIN BORD:

The authors report in a Bigfoot sightings catalogue that in Carroll County, Maryland, a policeman saw Bigfoot cross a road and walk over a fence. He yelled "Halt!", Bigfoot walked towards him, so the policeman fired at it but Bigfoot continued coming. The policeman drove away fast.

The authors indicate that the sources are a 1959 issue of the News American, of Baltimore, noted S. Stover and headlined "Does Maryland have a Sasquatsch", and INFO Journal, volume VII, number 6, page 2.

[Ref. ar1:] ALBERT ROSALES:

Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that in Carroll County, Maryland, in 1959, at night, while on duty, a police officer saw a huge hairy bipedal creature cross a dirt road in front of his car and step over a barbed wire fence. The police officer yelled halt and the creature turned and approached the officer, who in turn fired his gun at the entity with no apparent effect. The police officer then fled the area.

Albert Rosales indicates that the source is Mark Opsasnick, The Bigfoot Digest.

[Ref. hd1:] HIGH DESERT BIGFOOT RESEARCH PROJECT:

The website indicates that in 1959, in Carroll County, Maryland, a Police officer saw Bigfoot cross road and step over fence, he yelled "Halt!", Bigfoot walked towards him, so he fired at it but it kept coming. He drove away fast.

Points to consider:

No UFO was seen and the creature is stated to be "Bigfoot", not a UFO occupant. No investigation report seems available, and the report is apparently a newspaper story. With an anonymous witness and an absence of a date, it seems unlikely that anthing more can be learned on this sighting.

The details of the case are cruelly missing, however it is reported that it happened in the night; there is consequently nothing to exclude that the creature was for example a bear.
