JULY 12, 1959, SAPULPA, OKLAHOMA, FRANK BUCKSHOT STANDING HORSE:

Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

Ottawa Indian Chief Frank Buckshot Standing Horse, 67 years old, had a long time interest in flying saucers and stories of men from Mars and Venus. On July 12, 1959, near Sapulpa, Oklahoma, he had been working hard all day preparing his Christian camp for a coming convention he had called the First Indian Spacecraft Convention, in which invited speakers were "contactees" sich as Truman Bethurum and Buck Nelson, who would tell of their space adventures on board flying saucers piloted by picturesque men from space and attractive women from Mars, Venus and imaginary planets such as Bethurum's Clarion.

He stopped working at 08:00 p.m., went into his house, sat down and read a book until the 10:00 p.m. news. He told that soon after that, his radio made a noise like a shotgun going off, and the lights went out. He thus went outside by the front door to the fuse box, he pulled the switch and the lights came on again.

While he stood there wondering about the cause of this, he felt the presence of someone near him and then encountered three normal men who identified themselves as spacemen from other worlds. He went with them to an island northeast of the camp where a magnificent circular ship came down to the ground. He said this ship was about 250 feet in diameter and about 28 feet high.

He was taken on board where he met a beautiful tall woman with long black hair and blue eyes. He went on a a space trip to Mars, close to the moon, Venus, Clarion and Orean. Later, on another trip, he went to Jupiter in an "Arrow Ship" which was 21/2 miles long. On Mars, he saw some large rock-like buildings, and on planet Orean he saw large beautiful buildings and churches.

FIRST INDIAN SPACECRAFT CONVENTION

The first Indian Spacecraft Convention has been announced by Convention Chairman and Host, Chief Standing Horse, Rt. 13, Box 603, Tulsa, Oklahoma. The convention that will probe into sightings and experiences with Unidentified Flying Objects or what are popularly called "Flying Saucers," will get underway at the Indian Christian Camp on old Highway 66, eleven and one-half miles Southwest of Tulsa and two and one-half miles from Sapulpa, Oklahoma, on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26 and 27. Camping facilities are available for those who wish to camp out. This is to become an annual event says Chief Standing Horse.

Chief Standing Horse was born eighteen miles east of Toledo, Ohio, in a tepee and says therefore he is a "Buckeye." He is 67 years old. He said he has seen Flying Saucers four or perhaps five times since May 15th, 1947. One nearly landed near his place at Tulsa one day when he was reading the Holy Bible under an oak tree in front of his house. He says his grandmother knew what Flying Saucers were and she believes she saw one when she was 13 years of age. She called it a "Canne." She lived to within three months and four days of 130 years of age. Chief Standing Horse, in a letter to the Director of Washington Saucer Intelligence, a civilian Saucer Investigation Agency, said "Ezekiel saw a wheel within a wheel, was it a Flying Saucer?"

Many answers to questions such as these will be given and many interesting conferences take place as noted Flying Saucer lecturers have been invited by Chief Standing Horse. Many will recount personal experiences with strange craft that have been seen or landed and discuss the historical, spiritual and philosophical meanings behind this flurry of 20th Century activity. Chief Standing Horse invites the public to come and hear.

He is busily engaged in preparing the camp grounds for the event; installing a cook house, standing counter for soft drinks, lights and comfort stations. He is spending $500.00 of his own funds to make this possible and has purchased a new tape recorder so he can make a permanent record of lectures for future listening pleasure. He does not know how to operate the tape recorder yet but says he will learn.

Two more conventions can be added to the 1959 list: Chief Standing Horse held the first Indian Spacecraft Convention during September at the Indian Christian Mission, Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Among the featured speakers were Buck Nelson, Truman Bethurum, and Wayne S. Aho who was the master of ceremonies and also lectured on "Free Energy Concepts."

[Ref. wb1:] WINFIELD S. BROWNELL:

This author indicated that on July 12, 1959: near Sapulpa, Oklahoma, USA; Chief Frank Buckshot Standing Horse, an Ottawa Indian, had been working hard all day preparing his Christian camp for a coming convention.

He stopped working at 08:00 p.m., went into his house, too tired to eat or bathe, so he sat down and read a book until the 10 o'clock news. Soon after that, his radio made a noise like a shotgun going off, and his lights went out.

Going outside by the front door to the fuse box, he pulled the switch and the lights came on again. While he stood there wondering about the cause of this, he felt the presence of "someone near him..."

He then encountered three men who identified themselves as spacemen from other worlds. He went with them to an island northeast of the camp "...where a magnificent circular ship came down to the ground."

He said this ship was about "250 feet in diameter and about 28 feet high..." He then entered, and was taken in it to "Mars... close to the moon... Venus, Clarion and Orean. Later, on another trip, he went to Jupiter "in an Arrow Ship which was 21/2 miles long..."

[Ref. ar1:] ALBERT ROSALES:

Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that near Sapulpa, Oklahoma, on July 12, 1959, at night, Frank B. Standing Horse was in a field clearing some land for a local church when a large disc shaped craft landed nearby.

Three normal looking men emerged from the craft and invited him onboard. Inside, the witness met a beautiful woman, six-feet 4 inches tall with long black hair and blue eyes. The witness supposedly took a long journey to several planets including Mars where he saw some large rock-like buildings, and to the planet Oreon where he saw large beautiful buildings and churches. He was eventually returned.

Albert Rosales indicates that the source is Flying Saucers Intl Issue # 25, July 1967.

Points to consider:

The speakers at the UFO Convention of the Indian chief were practically all "contactees" like Truman Bethurum, which told in lectures and books of his trips on other planets in flying saucers with his extraterrestrial friends. "Clarion" was one of planets that Bethurum claimed to have visited.
