OCTOBER 20, 1955, PORTELA DE PAU, ORENSE, SPAIN, MANUEL GONZALES VASQUEZ AND ERMINA:

Brief summary of the event and follow-up:

A Spanish ufologist indicated towards 2000, that Manuel González Vázquez, of the small village of Cortegazas, then 46, late on October 20, 1955, watched his cattle which fed on the locality Portela de Pau, Spain. He was with his neighbor Erminda, an excessively pious Christian woman.

The story says that they felt a "tremor" during several minutes; which frightened them.

A few moments later, they reportedly saw, far away, an indefinite character, "like a screen"; which definitely had a human silhouette.

A few seconds later still, they saw another character approaching, flying under the clouds. As it approached, they saw that it was a woman who approached them flying some three meters above the ground.

It was a girl some 18-year-old, measuring a little more than one meter in height, with gathered hair and a coat of light turquoise color.

This flying woman approached maintaining her height, and exceeded Manuel and Erminda, looking towards them but saying anything.

That is said to have lasted nearly half an hour, and both thought it was some sign from God, or an appearance of the Blessed Virgin. Manuel devoted all his life to the good of the village church and to Christian devotion.

Narratives:

[Ref. cf1:] CARLOS FERNANDEZ:

The Spanish ufologist indicates that Manuel González Vázquez, of the small village of Cortegazas, was 46 years old at the time of the event which he recorded in his memory as occurring at the date of October 20, 1955, whereas he watched his cattle which fed with the locality Portela de Pau. He was late, and Manuel was in company of his neighbor Erminda, a very devout Christian.

The first thing that they felt was a tremor which lasted a few minutes, that caused them a certain fear. A few moments later, they saw far from them an indefinite character, "like a screen" and which had indisputably a human silhouette.

A few seconds later, they saw another character who approached flying under the clouds. As it approached, they could note that it was a woman, who approached them, and who flew maintaining an altitude of some three meters.

She had the appearance of a 18-year-old girl of a little more than one meter height. She had gathered hair and had a coat of light turquoise color. This flying woman approached maintaining her height, and while exceeding Manuel and Erminda, turned her head towards them, but did not say anything.

The appearance lasted roughly half an hour and was interpreted by both like a divine sign, or an appearance of the Blessed Virgin. The religious context of this time conditioned Manuel's interpretation, and he devoted all his life to the good of the Church of his village and to Christian devotion.

[Ref. ar1:] ALBERT ROSALES:

Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that in Portela de Pau, Orense, Spain, on October 20, 1955, late in the afternoon, Manuel Gonzalez Vazquez and his neighbor Erminda were in a field attending some cattle when they felt a slight tremor that lasted for a few minutes. Moments later they saw an undetermined figure inside "screen-like" image in the sky. The figure had a definite human shape. Seconds later they spotted a second flying figure approaching under the clouds. As the figure approached they could tell that it was a female figure, flying at 3 meters above the ground. It resembled an 18-year old girl, a little over a meter in height. Her hair was gathered up in a bun and was wearing a light turquoise colored cloak. The woman flew by the two witnesses and turned to look at them but did not say anything. It eventually glided away and disappeared from sight.

Albert Rosales indicates that the source is Gaceta Ovni.

Points to consider:

Did it really happen as it was told? Or was it just an invention to gain some attention in the village? Are superstitious people reliable observers? Where is the investigation report? What could possibly justify that this has anything to do with UFOs or UFO-occupants?
