In 1997, ufologist Jean Sider told he discovered a case of close encounter of the third kind by a Mr. Piednoir, on November 29, 1954, in Saint-Martin-de-la-Place, Saumur, Maine-et-Loire, narrated in two newspapers, The first, Le Baugeois, in Baugé, for December 3, 1954 on page 4, said that "someone noticed a flying saucer in Saint-Martin-de-la-Place". It was a very bright craft "and the Martian was 1 m 30". The flashlight of the witness went out - what sources copying Jean Sider's information, like Albert Rosales for example, called "a power outage was reported in the area at the same time."
The second newspaper, l'Echo Républicain, in Sablé, for December 11, 1954, on page 2, said that Mr. Piednoir had seen the machine landed in a wheat field, as well as its pilot, a small figure.
In November 2006, a reader of this file native of Saint-Clément-des-Levées, a village near Saint-Martin-de-la-Place, informed me that his grandparents, who operated a farm at a place called L'Oussiere, located about 1.5 km from the object's landing site, told him about "the story" when he was about 8 - he was 5 in 1954. According to them, the witness, well-known, was someone credible.
He indicates that the landing site was near a river named Authion, between the places called "Le Guet de Fresne", community of Saint-Martin, and "Les Pâtures", towards Saint-Clément.

Subject: UFO saint martin de la place (maine et loire) hello, In following of your UFO description St Martin de la Place, I confirm the occurrence to you. Native of St clément des levées, a village close to St Martin, my grandparents managed a farm at the locality l'oussiere,in St clement, farm located at approximately 1,5km of the place of the landing of the object, located on the community of St Martin,in proximity of a river named authion, between the locations "le Guet de Fresne", community of St Martin, and " Patures"near St clement. Aged 5 years at the time, my grandparents told me about "the story" about my eighth year. According to their statements, the witness, well-knowd, was worthy of faith. Now aged 57, it will be difficult for me to find the descent of the witness,i forgot his name. I immediatly start investigations at people of more than 80 years old for additional information. According to your website, the same facts occurred on the community of blaison gohier on November 20, 1954, that is, 4 days before St Martin the distance between the two villages, in straight line, is of approximately 6 km. It is, in my opinion, difficult to question the word of the witnesses, certainly brave farmers,"amazed at their vision"! I will inform you of my research being half-way of the two concerned villages. Yours sincerely [Initials] [Firstname Name] 49250 |

November 29 1954. SAINTE [sic] MARTIN DEL [sic] LA PLACE (MAINE ET LOIRE : FRANCE) At the time of a power outrage, a luminous figure was seen in a wheat field, with a short humanoid figure beside it. (Gross URECAT citing Rosales citing Lumieres dans le Nuit 325) |
Note: The source reference "Gross URECAT" is this page.
Here is probably one of the poorest reports ever since except a date, a village name, a time, mention of a luminous thing and a small humanoid, no other information seems available for a case that emerged more than 40 years after it allegedly occurred.
The report is much too meager to evaluate.
