[Ref. jc1:] JEROME CLARK:

Jerome Clark says that in 1919, a traveler passing down a country road in the state of Western Australia came upon a "man" working on a strange machine. When the traveler stopped to offer his assistance, the stranger looked up, evidently startled, and pointed something at the man, who was knocked unconscious. When he returned to consciousness, the stranger and the strange machine were gone.

Jerome Clark indicates that the source is Keith Basterfield, in "UFOs: The Image Hypothesis - Close Encounters of An Australian Kind", Sidney, New South Wales, Australia, Reed, 1981.

[Ref. kb1:] KEITH BASTERFIELD:

The Australian ufologist indicates that in 1919 in Australia in Central New South Wales, a man travelling down a country road came across an artefact resting near the roadside. He saw a "man" was apparently working on it, and went over to offer assistance. The stranger turned as if surprised and pointed something at the witness, who was knocked senseless. When the man came to his sense, the object and the man had gone. Subsequently, he found that his memory was never the same again.

Keith Basterfield indicates that the source is "ACOSB. No 9. p11."

[Ref. ar1:] ALBERT ROSALES:

Albert Rosales indicates in his catalogue that in Western Australia, exact location not given, in 1919, at an unknown time, a lone traveler going down an isolated road came upon a man working on a strange silvery object. The traveler approached to offer his assistance when the man looked up startled and pointed something at the traveler that knocked him unconscious. When he woke up, the stranger and the silvery object were gone.

Albert Rosales indicates that the source is Jerome Clark, Strange Magazine # 10.

[Ref. js1:] JEAN SIDER:

The author indicates that in 1919 in Western Australia, Australia, a traveller who moved one day on an insulated road saw a man busy doing an unspecified work on a weird silver object. The curious witness approached to propose his help, but as soon as the individual raised the head, it pointed something on the traveller, which made it unconscious. When he recovered conscousness, the foreigner and his machine were not there any more.

Jean Sider indicates that the sources are Schuessler, pp. 17-18, according to The Jarrold Listings, Ballarat Argus, Australia; and Keith Basterfield.

[Ref. ud1:] "UFODNA" WEBSITE:

The website indicates that in 1919, in Central Region, New South Wales, Australia, a "Man saw 'artifact' resting on ground next to roadside, with 'man' working on it. When he went to offer help he surprised the being, who pointed hand-held device at him, knocking him out. Memory problems."

The website comments that "Occupants of the craft were seen. Physiological effects were noted. A witness was burnt. One object was observed by one experienced male witness on a road. One humanoid was seen."

Points to consider:

See the List of Issues.

There are almost no details for this old report of unspecified origin. The "occupant" is described as being a man, nothing is not known about the UFO which is never seen in flight. There is the possibility that the report is a consequence of a memory problem of the witness rather than the other way around.
