Dear Major Keyhoe,
please excuse me to express myself in Italian: unfortunately, I do not know English well enough to write it, but I manage to read it. Thus, if you are kind enough to answer me, you can do it in English.
These recent days I read the Italian edition of your book "Flying saucers from the outer space": what you wrote is very interesting, especially to me as I am impassionned since years for the problem of the "flying discs" (although I did not even see one).
I am one of the Associates to the "Center for the studies of electromagnetic aviation", created in Rome by Dr. Alberto Perego (ex Consul of Italy, now retired), which published a detailed report of the sightings that occurred to this year.
The question of the "discs", as you wrote in your book, is of enormous importance; although I think, however, that I have some reasons of perplexity. Although I realize that an official recognition, on behalf of the Government, about these flying machines, would probably create a certain political and economic disturbance, I cannot yet understand why one continues to cover it up.
It is as if the Government convinced themselves that its people consisted of a crowd of rabbits [supposedly coward animal], rather than more or less intelligent people (indeed, yourself wrote that the Government fears to cause panic). This seems completely absurd to me: indeed, we live all in the constant danger of a war that can start at any time; your bombers of the advanced bases are in flight 24 hours a day with the H-bombs on board; certainly the Russians do the same; let's not even talk of the missiles.
We all know how terrible, irremediable, a thermonuclear war would be, even if, for the moment, the United States have a slight superiority on Russia. What bigger danger is there than that of total destruction? However, in spite of this pressing threat, people continue to remain calm, they do business, build houses, travel, make love as before (or almost).
If, as it is very probable, the pilots of the "flying discs" are not hostile, why not make an official statement? Even if their intentions are not known, I believe that no panic would follow if all the truth were told. So what?
Another obscure point is the fact that, until now, one did not find a way of communication with these extraterrestrial pilots. Even if we admit that the technicians of the Secret Services of the various States already made contacts with these pilots and that in spite of that they wish to maintain the secrecy, one does not understanding why no private person ever (for example some expert in telecommunications of some University or some private Large-scale industry, etc.) succeeded in communicating with them. This should not be impossible.
I know that there is someone who claims that he did; but, oddly,

there was no big publicity to that.
You, in your book, mentioned George Adamski, without giving him much importance: did you try to check whether there is some truth in this case?
There are even some who state that Adamski was already approached by responsibl persons of your Government, to communicate with the pilots of the "flying discs". Is this true?
Maybe it is possible to you to check this.
All things considered, to conclude, the most important thing now is not to know whether the "discs" are round or oval, whether they are large or small, white or red, or which form of energy they use to move, but to know where they come from and what their pilots want: to achieve this goal, it is necessary to communicate with them.
I would like to ask you, dear Major, to write to me what you know, currently, on this matter. I trust your courtesy for a clear and appreciated answer.

voglia scusarmi se mi esprimo in Italiano: purtroppo, non conosco l'Inglese così bene da scriverlo, ma mi arrangio a leggerlo. Percio, se vorrà essere tanto cortese da rispondermi, lo faccia pure in Inglese.
Ho letto in questi giorni l'edizione italiana del Suo libro "Flying saucers from the outer space": e molto interessante ciò che Lei ha scritto, specialmente per me che da anni m'appassiono al problema dei "dischi volanti" (quantunque non ne abbia visto nemmeno uno).
Sono uno dei Soci del "Centro studi aviazione elettromagnetica", creato a Roma dal Dr. Alberto Perego (ex Console italiano, ora a riposo), il quale ha pubblicato un dettagliato rapporto degli avvistamenti avvenuti fino a quest'anno.
La questione dei "dischi", come Lei ha scritto nel Suo libro; e di enorme importanza; anche io lo credo, però vi sono alcune ragioni di perplessità. Nonostante io mi renda conto che un riconoscimento ufficiale, da parte del Governo, della provenienza di queste macchine volanti, creerebbe probabilmente un certo turbamento politico ed economico, non riesco ancora a comprendere perchè si continua a tacere.
E' come se il Governo fosse convinto che il suo popolo fosse costituito da una moltitudine di conigli, invece che da persone più o meno intelligenti (infatti, anche Lei ha scritto che il Governo teme di provocare il panico). Ciò a me sembra completamente assurdo: infatti, viviamo tutti nel costante pericolo che scoppi da un momento all'altro una guerra; i vostri bombardieri delle basi avanzate sono in volo 24 ore su 24 con le bombe H a bordo; certamente anche i russi fanno lo stesso; senza parlare, poi, dei missili.
Tutti sappiamo che cosa tremenda, senza rimedio, sia una guerra termonucleare, anche se, per ora, gli Stati Uniti hanno una lieve superiorità sulla Russia. Quale pericolo c'è, maggiore di una distruzione totale? Eppure, nonostante questa minaccia incombente, la gente continua a mantenere una certa calma, conclude affari, costruisce case, viaggia, fa all'amore come prima (o quasi).
Se, come è molto probabile, i piloti dei "dischi volanti" non ci sono ostili, perchè non dichiararlo ufficialmente? Anche se non si conoscono le loro intenzioni, io credo che non si creerebbe alcun panico dicendo tutta la verità. E allora?
Un altro punto oscuro è il fatto che, finora, non si sia trovato il modo di mettersi in comunicazione con questi piloti extraterrestri. An che se ammettiamo che i tecnici dei Servizi Segreti dei diversi Stati abbiano già realizzato contatti con questi piloti e che tuttavia desiderino mantenere il segreto, non si riesce a capire come mai nessun privato (ad es. qualche esperto di telecomunicazioni qualche Università qualche grande Industria privata, ecc.) sia riuscito a comunicare con' essi. Non dovrebbe essere impossibile.
So che c'è qualcuno che afferma di aver fatto ciò; ma, stranamente,
non si è data grande pubblicità alla cosa.
Lei, nel Suo libro, ha citato George Adamski, senza dargli grande importanza: ha cercato di vedere cosa c'è di vero in quella faccenda?
C'è anche chi afferma che Adamski sia già stato avvicinato da per sone incaricate dal vostro Governo, per comunicare con i piloti dei "dischi volanti". E' vero?
Forse, Lei ha la possibilità di saperlo.
Insomma, per concludere, ormai la cosa più importante non è il sapere se i "dischi" sono rotondi od ovali, se sono grandi o piccoli, bianchi o rossi, o quale forma di energia utilizzano per muoversi, ma bensìconoscere da dovevengono e cosa vogliono i loro piloti: per raggiungere questo scopo, e necessario comunicare con essi.
Vorrei pregarla, egregio Maggiore, di scrivermi cosa Lei sa, oggi, su tale questione. Ho fiducia nella Sua cortesia per una risposta chiara e sollecita.
