ALSACAT:

As its name suggests, ALSACAT is my comprehensive catalog of UFO sighting reports in Alsace, the region is the North-East of France, whether they are "explained" or "unexplained".

The ALSACAT catalog is made of case files with a case number, summary, quantitative information (date, location, number of witnesses...), classifications, all sources mentioning the case with their references, a discussion of the case in order to evaluate its causes, and a history of the changes made to the file. A general index and thematic sub-catalogs give access to these Alsatian case files.

Case in Alsace, on October 11, 2008:

Case number:

ALSACAT-2008-10-11-ALSACE-1

Summary:

On May 6, 2013, a video titled "ufo Alsace" appeared on Youtube - it then disappeared - accompanied by a short story saying that during the night of Saturday, October 11, 2008, around 10:30 p.m., a family and their neighbors saw in the sky a huge luminous dot moving from north to south and having a bright red color.

A few seconds later, a second and a third "mysterious" dot also of bright red color appeared and joined the first.

During this observation, the night was reportedly "calm and relatively silent", and apparently none of these "mysterious balls did not emit the slightest noise during their travels."

In two of the comments of the video, it is suggested that these might have been Chinese lanterns.

During the night of Saturday, October 11, 2008, around 10:30 p.m., a family as well as their neighbors will see in the sky a huge bright dot moving from north to south and having a bright red color.

Seconds later, a second and a third dot also being mysterious bright red dot will make their appearances to reach the first.

It is important to note that during this observation, the night was calm and relatively quiet. Apparently, none of these mysterious balls did emit any noise during the movement.

Discussion:

In the years 2005 to 2018 (when I write these lines - in Alsace, most so-called "UFO sightings" that were reported were actually caused by Chinese lanterns.

In this case, I obviously do not have some "scientific evidence". Simply, the meager description is consistent with that. So if diehards insist that these were not Chinese lanterns, let them demonstrate it.

Evaluation:

Probable Chinese lanterns.
