Mid October, 1954, Féniers, Creuse:

Reference for this case: MidOct-54-Féniers.
Please cite this reference in any correspondence with me regarding this case.

Summary:

A catalog compiled from data of Jean Giraud and Jean Gérard Dohmen, in the ufology magazine INFO-OVNI, in 1975, indicates that in October 1954, at 07:30 p.m., in Féniers in the Creuse, Ms. Genet saw the appearance of a bright yellow object, very luminous, about four times the size of a star, lying just above the hill overlooking the village of "Petit Meymac".

It disappeared in a few seconds.

The catalog indicates that this comes from the Le Mémorial de la Marche for October 23, 1954.

Reports:

[Ref. ioi1:] "INFO-OVNI" UFOLOGY MAGAZINE:

024 10/../1954 - 07:30 p.m. - FENIERS - Wit. Mrs. GENET

Appearance of a bright yellow object, very luminous about 4 times the size of a star. Just above the hill overlooking the village of "Petit Meymac". Disappeared in a few seconds.

(MEMORIAL DE LA MARCHE, Sat. Oct. 23, 1954)

Explanations:

Map.

I did not find "Petit Meymac", but Meymac is 175° from Fénier (Almost South, at 22 km).

The Moon, for example, might be thought of as a cause of misinterpretation, but since there is no known precise date, it is difficult to verify.

In the days preceding the newspaper article of October 22, 1954, the moon had been below the horizon long before that hour. But Mars was clearly visible, consistent with the description, at 07:30 p.m., for example on October 21, 1954, at 186°, elevation 21°, as well as October 21, 1954. On the 17, 18, 19, and 20 of October 1954, Mars was at 185°, elevation 21°. The disappearance in a few seconds remains a problem, except if one thinks of a cloud coming to hide it.
