Mid October, 1954, Amiens, Somme:

Reference for this case: Mid-Oct-54-Amiens.
Please cite this reference in any correspondence with me regarding this case.

Summary:

In an article written in playful tone, promising for example 10 liters of Martini to their journalists who would make revelations about the "flying saucers", the local newspaper La Pie de Picardie mentioned that a peacekeeper from Amiens who admired the celestial vault had seen a flying saucer in the form of a "flying lens" above Amiens. No other information was given.

The sighting was reported that same day in the local newspaper Abbeville Libre: "An Amiens peacekeeper, Mr. Delcourt, who was walking on rue Gauthier-de-Rumilly, saw in the direction of Ailly-sur-Somme, a sort of silvery and shiny lens which, without the slightest noise echoed, flew in a large quarter of circle and disappeared on the horizon."

Flying lens...
above Amiens!

Our newspaper has ordered all of its editors to go hunting to unravel the mystery of flying saucers. Ten liters of Martini rewarding the most sensational details we are certain that our collaborators will spare no effort and that we will be able to give you extraordinary revelations very soon.

In the meantime, those who took "that" for fun are dumfounded, since a peacekeeper saw a "flying lens" above Amiens.

A peacekeeper is a sworn gentleman whose statements cannot be suspected.

And that's what makes the saucer "official".

Thanks to a brave Amiens police officer who admired the sky (which doesn't mean that he was moondreaming!) no one will doubt the existence of these bizarre aerial vehicles any more.
