Summary:

According to a report of the CIA of April 20, 1954, the regional newspaper Nice-Matin for January 10, 1954, had reported an "unexplained phenomenon in the sky of the Puy-de-Dome:

On the morning of January 8, 1954, the inhabitants of the small hamlet of Montaleix, in the town of Chambon-sur-Lac, were awakened by the sound of an airplane engine. The noise lasted from 05:30 a.m. to 07:30 a.m.

A large greenish flash was seen and the noise stopped. The ground station of Aix-en-Provence had received no distress call from any plane.

UNEXPLAINED PHENOMENON IN PUY-DE-DOME SKY -- Nice, Nice-Matin, 10 Jan 54

On the morning of 8 january, the residents of the small hamlet of Monthaleix, in the commune of Chambon-sur-Lac Department of Puy-de-Dome, were awakened by the sound of an airplane motor. The noise lasted from 0530 to 0730 hours. A large greenish flash was seen and the noise stopped. The Aix-en-Provence ground station had received no distress calls from aircraft.

Explanations:

This "atypical" incident probably has two ordinary explanations:

1) An airplane, or a rather helicopter, considering the duration of the noise, flies around.

2) A meteor enters the atmosphere and causes the green flash.

The data is obviously not precise enough to make my proposal a certainty. But one would certainly agree that this whole incident does not really look like an extraterrestrial visit.
