October 5, 1954, Cavernes, Gironde:

Reference number for this case: 5-Oct-54-Cavernes. Thank you for including this reference number in any correspondence with me regarding this case.

Summary:

In a general catalog of sighting reports of the Gironde written by the Bordeaux section of the C.F.R.U., published in the ufology magazine Ouranos in the fourth quarter of 1973, it is said that according to the Sud-Ouest newspaper for October 7, 1954, the following observation occurred:

On October 5, 1954, at 11:00 p.m. in Cavernes, Mr. Loubières of St-Loubés, reportedly saw a misty sphere, of greenish yellow color, 10 meters in diameter, over a fence 50 meters from him. After moving slowly close to the ground, it slipped away at a dizzying pace as Mr. Loubières approached, crossing the wires of a high-voltage line.

October 5, 1954 11 p.m. Cavernes QA V4

Witness: Mr. Loubières of St-Loubés. Misty sphere, greenish yellow, 10 meters in diameter over a fence 50 meters from the witness. After moving slowly close to the ground, it slipped away at a dizzying pace as the witness approached, crossing the wires of a high-voltage line.

S.O. 7 Oct. 54

Explanations:

One could think of a corona effect caused by the high-voltage line. But this is not so obvious since this effect does not leave the cables, in principle.

Then there is the possibility of ball lightning, assuming the size was not "10 meters in diameter", but 10 centimeters.
