Summary:

In their 1979 book "OVNI - Premier Dossier Complet des Rencontres Rapprochées en France", Michel Figuet and Jean-Louis Ruchon indicated that according to their own archive, on October 21, 1954, at 08:30 in Girancourt in the Vosges, many people located in various points of the locality had observed a cylindrical object standing vertically in the sky and changing color.

François Diolez, of the ufology group "Cercle Vosgien Lumières Dans La Nuit", in their ufology bulletin La Ligne Bleue Survolée? #12 of 1984, told a little more, noting that the source is an article in the newspaper La Liberté de l'Est for October 26, 1954, in which we read:

Public rumor tells us that a flying cigar was observed at the GIRANCOURT station on Thursday morning at 8:30. A shopkeeper from CHAUMOUSSEY was making his rounds and leaving the station café arrived at the first house of ADONCOURT when a client shouted to him: "Look over there! He then noticed in the sky towards HENNECOURT and at a low altitude under the low ceiling of the clouds, an object appearing cylindrical in a vertical position. The object must have been motionless or spinning on itself. It appeared to be of several colors, red, yellow, blue, orange as if shimmering. Then suddenly it veered towards DOMPAIRE without any noise. At the GIRANCOURT station dozens of people saw it, the postman and the stationed soldiers.
