The regional newspaper Le Nouveau Nord Maritime for November 3, 1954, published on page 7 under the title "A flying cigar off the shore of Calais", that "Monday" - therefore on November 1, 1954 - around 06:30 p.m., several members of the crew of the pilot boat of the station of Calais had seen, at a very great height, a kind of flying cigar coming from the East and heading on the sea towards the Northwest: "The craft emitted a dazzling glow at the rear, difficult to follow on the telescope."

Calais, 2. -- Monday, around 6:30 p.m., several members of the crew of the pilot boat from the Calais station saw, at a very great height, a kind of flying cigar coming from the East and heading towards the sea towards the Northwest. The craft emitted a dazzling glow at the rear, difficult to follow on the telescope.
