The regional newspaper Le Télégramme de Brest et de l'Ouest for October 20, 1954, reported that on October 18, 1954, upon arriving at the port of Aber-Wrach with the sloop "Saint-Yves" from Moguériec, its sailor François Floc'h recounted witnessing a strange phenomenon while at sea.
Around 4 a.m., he saw a luminous sphere above Valli, in Moguériec, moving from East to West. The phenomenon lasted for about thirty seconds, after which the white sphere suddenly disappeared.
The newspaper states that the same phenomenon was observed by a sailor from another trawler, Mr. Jean Roudaut, from the sloop "Mimi," who declared that he was dazzled by the blinding brightness emitted by the sphere.

L'Aber-Wrach, 19th. -- Yesterday, the sloop "Saint-Yves" from Moguériec entered the port of Aber-Wrach. One of its sailors, François Floc'h, witnessed a strange phenomenon while at sea.

This could have been a meteor; but there was no other sighting at this date and hour to confirm it was a meteor. Also, no trail is mentionned.
One can think it was a flare, as this is the explanation for other, different sightings at sea in the area; but the duration seems too short, and a flare can hardly be displaex as "blinding" until it was very close.
I leave this sighting as unidentified, but of medium strangeness.
