October 18, 1954, Audruicq, Pas-de-Calais:

Reference for this case: 18-Oct-54-Audruicq.
Please cite this reference in any correspondence with me regarding this case.

Summary:

In the 1950s, a French archivist interested in the topic, Guy Quincy, had compiled a catalog of observations, without details and without source references.

he noted in there a sighting at an unknown hour on October 18, 1954, in Audruicq, wondering whether it was a meteor.

Indeed, on October 18, 1954, in that region, around 8:45 p.m., a meteor had been widely seen, and often reported as a "flying saucer" or "flying cigar".

Explanations:

Map.

Quincy ([gqy1]) had also noted a sighting in Audruicq for the day before October 17, 1954; it is therefore not excluded that one or the other case is an incorrectly dated duplicate for the same observation. But the one on the 17th occurred around 7 p.m.

But on October 18, 1954, there was indeed a meteor widely seen in this region, around 8:45 p.m.
